hardwire New Johnson Pump or use factory wires? What did you do?

I got my Johnson pump in today and am going to install it tommorrow.

Is it o.k. to use cut and use the factory power wires? I am not sure if the increased amps will blow the fuse in the factory circuit.

How do the tuners(renn, evo and kleeman) wire these? Do they use a relay circuit that uses the old wires to turn the pump on or do they have it relayed to come on with Ignition source and stay running all of the time?

Thanks for your help!

Scott

I don't have the johnson pump but I will be getting it for the summer but from what I read on the forum you will need a relay for the new pump because of the increased amps( I belive 13amps not too sure). Also I belive it up to you if you want it to work all the time or when the supercharger kicks on. I think the latter is better if you wire it to a switch. Some of the guys use it at the track for better cooling between runs. BTW where did you get your pump? Price? PM if you don't want to say. Good luck.

Shaun:

Johnson pump install is not a simple task.

1. It is different in size, so you need to fabricate a new bracket to install it.

2. The inlet and outlet are 1.5'' vs. 0.75'' for Bosch, you will need to either fabricate reducers or find some in at hardware store.

3. The pump draws twice as much current as stock, so you need to run a relay.

Other than that, it is definitely better than stock.

got the pump mounted, NO Rubber yet to absorb the noise.
Had the reducers ready to go from hardware store.
I had to stop and go home, so I have to wait until tommorrow to get the relay kit and wire it up and rig up some kind of rubber mounting system to absorb the vibration.

Thanks for the help!
