Has anybody towed with their CLS 63?

I know the car is not designed for towing but I was wondering if anybody has done it. I need to tow approximately 2200kg.

Thanks.

currently drive the 83 300SD
you have got to be kidding me. U-Haul rents pickup trucks for 20 dollars a day. Trailers and dollys are cheap too.

Speaking about accessorizing the CLS-Where can I get one of the outside air conditioning units that mount at the top of the Window-will it plug into the cig lighter?

Awesome because I'm really having a hard time bungee-cording these canoes on to the top of my Phantom.

We are getting some really good first posts lately. First that guy who got banned within minutes of suggesting on Off Topic that Germany should have nuclear weapons, kicking off an anti-Israel and anti-everthing else rant that got the whole thread closed.

Now, this cat wants to turn his CLS into a pickup.

What's next, Osama bin Laden coming on to the forum to ask how best to use a Mercedes to blow s*** up?

Best bet is to load the trunk up completely with explosives. Have the valet park it in the front.

Obtain adequate distance and detonate.

Please excuse all of my American friends, here in the states we tend to use our gas guzzling SUV's to tow everything like our boats, trailers, race cars, and other toys. After visiting Europe I was quite suprised to see everyday luxury vehicles with tow hitches, and towing some fairly big items. But to answer your question I can safely say that none of us here in the US have added a trailer hitch to our CLS, but it is possible cause I have seen it done. I would call your dealer to see if Mercedes sells a hitch that is made for the CLS. Here are a couple of pics I took while on the Auto Strate in Italy.

Thanks Kevin. I guess I asked for those responses

I just purchased a race car and looking to tow it without purchasing another car specifically for towing. Looks like I'll have to look at an 4WD after all.

Trade in the CLS for a Honda and rent a room with the change.

No prob, yea I would suggest a nice suv for towing, where do you live and what kind of race car do you have?

This is what I used to tow with before getting our Motorhome..

Very nice!

I'm from Australia. Just bought a 2004 Carrera Cup Car. Obviously not registered for street hence the need for a tow car. Looked at an Cayenne S, ML63 and RR Vogue on the weekend. Leaning towards the Cayenne as it has the best interior atm.

Awesome, your going to have a great time racing that bad boy. If you choose the Cayenne be sure it has the Air suspension. It makes towing more comfortable and a little easier loading and unloading.

I have news for you, SUV and pickup NOT built any stronger than your CLS. The springs are stiffer but the tranny and motors etc are all the same. Pickups don't even have frames anymore. You can tow a sprint car and trailer with your car and not hurt it. The dealers tell you that you cant so they can make a sale. My CLS will tow a boat at 100 mph with no problems. I towed my boat for years with my 1980 Camaro for years and never hurt a thing on it.

PS: I am going to have one custom made for my CLS. I will probably start with one made for a C or E class sedan and have it modifed to fit my car. Then I can tow my kart trailer and atv trailers plus stick a bike rack on the back from time to time. Instead of stupidly spending 20k to by a truck.
