removing door lock pin surrounds
I've got some nice chrome door lock pins and surrounds I'm trying to install, but I can't figure out how to get the existing surrounds out. I read in another thread that they should pop out, but I've tried using quite a bit of force to do so without any luck, and I don't want to break anything. My new surrounds are threaded which makes me think that the existing surrounds are threaded as well -- if so, how do I unscrew them? I've tried various things to get a grip on them to twist them, with no luck.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

On a side note, if you have the round chrome trip like in the pic below, I left the existing black piece on and just added the round chrome piece over it.

Any pointers on what to use to grab the surrounds when I unscrew them? I can't seem to get a grip on the outside of them, and i tried to grab them by inserting some pliers into the hole and then opening the pliers to hopefully grab the surround from the inside, but neither worked. But then again, I didn't try _too_ hard since I wasn't sure if I was barking up the right tree or not.
You know, now I'm re-reading your post and I'm not sure if you're talking about removing the door lock pins (which yes, I easily unscrewed) or the surrounds...I think you might be talking about leaving the existing surrounds on, since you talked about leaving "the black piece on" and "putting the chrome piece over it". My chrome surrounds wouldn't fit over, since they're set-up to screw in.
I've included an image of what I have to hopefully clarify the raw materials I'm working with.
Any additional advice?

hmm, your chrome surrounding does look different from mine. the ones i got, has double sided tape inside and you just place it over the original black surrounding.

Kevin, where did you get yours? I found these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...spagenameZWDVW -- but they look more curved (convex?) than yours.

Not sure if he just sells the surrounds though, doesn't hurt to ask
Take jumbo paper clip. Bend 90º on one end...yet still allowing the bend to
be inserted down into the the surround (threaded door pull removed). Pull
up to assist in lifting the surround up. Work your way around. You should
be able to get enough clearance to grab the surround with needle nose or
hemostat.
Surround is thin, cheap plastic. It isn't spiral threaded, rather ridged to keep
the surround from pulling out easily.
I think I'm just going to get the set that Kevin referred me to, since he knows that those work -- but I do, of course, have one last little question ;-) In the picture on the auction, it looks like there is a gold/bronze band around the pin...are yours like that? I think that might look weird...

goodluck.

, i placed the chrome surrounding over the original one, as well.
