E55 to CLS63
Hey guys,
I have not been on the boards for a very long time, but I still think that this community is the best of all car enthusiast forums. I had a 2003 e55, and it was a beautiful beast. I had the Evosport package 2, it it rocked! I loved that monster, but due to my profession and career I had to move to Shanghai and Taipei and I sold my e55 2 years ago. I have been through many cars, many many project cars with massive hp n tq numbers but seriously, no car has had my pulse pumping like the e55.
I would like to make it clear that I am not BSing....and i am not a troll....
Cylinder Head can confirm. He is actually my best friend and I must say he is a lil way too knowledgable about cars, all cars....haha...
Anyway, I am moving back to NJ/NY area to start a couple new business projects, and I placed an order for a white 2008 CLS63 with black interior, optioned out and 030 package. I think its somewhere around 109,000 USD.
So, coming from a modded e55, will I enjoy the CLS63? I go with the moto "friends don't let friend drive stock" and when I get the new car I will mod the hell out of it. BUT, there is a big but, the 63 is NA and I have done countless hours of research and the only mods I have found are ECU and headers, charcoal filter removal, and I can take out the resonators.
Even after I do all that, it will still be less power than my previous e55.
Anything else I am able to do?
Are there any carbon fiber airboxes out yet? Or even carbon fiber engine covers?
Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and I am looking forward to reading all of your opinions.
Thanks again!

I'm going to be following this thread carefully. I think I want a C63, but in reality a CLS63 makes more sense for me in my line of work so I'm debating which way to go. I've seen sway bars from brabus and toe links from renntech, but not sure if they would work well together. If anyone has any experience with these products on the car at the same time, I'd appreciate the feedback.

i believe thats all the mods that are available for a 63, at this point. why not get a cls55?
the 63 is new so i'm pretty sure lots of mods will be introduce shortly.

Keep your eye on Brabus. They do have some great new stuff for the 63. The claim to get 475 at the wheel which is insane. That's CATs, Exhaust, ECU and some other stuff. I personally don't like Brabus prices but they have the research money so they come out with stuff first. Everyone else follows to see if they can copy. If money is no object (it is with me ) then go to Brabus and you'll be happy. Otherwise you'll likely be waiting 1 more year. The C63 with be with driving force behind all the mods.

brabus is way too much for me...haha...
i agree that the c63 will be the driving force for 63 mods, because there will be so many running around! and c-class guys def mod their cars more than any other class, with exception of e. they do look pretty aggressive....
so how do u like your cls63? hows the handling? and the power?

The power is intoxicating.
The handling is meh. It needs to have at least three more tighter settings.
I love the car, absolutely love it. I would not pick any other color combo on that car btw.

Sunny,
I did this however my 55 was unmodded. Power is there in every way, car feels great and it IMO looks great. Good luck , you will love the car and I do not think the power difference will be noticed at all. Maybe during the first few k miles your 63 will feel less powerful but just keep mashing the gas and make sure she is shifting out @ 7k rpm

Sunny,
I designed evosport's Stage II, when I was the part-owner. I am glad you liked it.
For the future of 63s look here:

2005 SL55 AMG
canceled CLS63
Hey guys, I decided to cancel the CLS63 order because I started test driving CPO, (certified pre-owned) SL55 AMGs as well as looking into CPO SL65 AMG.
The price range for the SL65s have gone down so much! And there are many good deals for the 55s. These two cars are very easy to mod, and I believe the body style will continue until the 2009 facelift is in, which is the only down side for me.
I've also heard rumors from this forum as well as some MB guys, about future twin turbo v8 engines coming from AMG not too far down the road?
Can anyone confirm this? Cause I would absolutley killfor a TTv8!
I'm looking into black exterior with red interior for the SL now.....its a hot combo.

Only get the SL if it's the 65....or wait for the 2009 SL55.
The SL55 is great,.. I love mine, but a brand new CLS63 will be better. For one, it's more modern and fresh. The SL is old and will have a major face lift next year.
Any reason why you're considering it over a new CLS AMG?

Also 2007 sl55 has some new tweaks to super charger I think and runs stronger then rest
65 would own but then again big face lift coming so . also regarding the new v8 twin turbo if it ever comes out will be first gen and i am sure will be plagued with problems at first batch as usual with all these high tech cars.
It's soo hard i know :-/, but here is what i think. CLS is a very nice looking car and nothing else out there would sway me as choices are little, maybe p 997tt but then you compromise a few things.
i use these when i go for a car (price/ need/ usage/ maintenance/ usability) when i look for a car. i can keep adding to that but tried to narrow it down
I hardly get to use the full power of the 55 on our roads as it stands... unless i can be bothered to go out way late at night cursing on empty roads and streets.

I considering a used SL55 because a new CLS63 will take a big depreciation hit since its brand new. The SL55 are very well priced now. What also factors in for me is that the 55 motor can be easily modded and the torque is so much fun! That old school 5-speed transmission can take a lot of power and punishment.
I would love the SL65, but still a little more expensive than a brand new CLS63. With the money im saving from an SL55, I can mod the motor, LSD, as well as exterior upgrades.
Yes the SL facelift is due next year, but I usually keep my cars for around 2 years. I usually mod the hell out of it and then move onto something else, hopefully nicer each time.
