They aren't really tinted. The proper way or best looking way is to have them painted believe it or not. I'm not sure of the exact technique but that's how they get them to look really sharp. You may pay more but it gives it that high-end look. Be carefull too though - it's a trend right now (i agree it looks hot) but once you get in an accident (God forbid) you will definitely get the blame. The cops defnitely will not favor you with blacked out tails.

I originally used a window tint for the white part of my tail lights. I don't reccomend that. I removed it.
Now I have the black part sprayed black. They make spray for tail lights. You just get the tail lights removed, spray it (multiple coats depending on how dark), and there ya have it. It looks real nice, good luck.

Any good body shop can smoke your lights. The traditional (and most popular) way to smoke them is to have them painted. The body shop mixes a little bit of black paint with clear and shoots the mixture onto the light.

there is a shop here in montreal that does the best job.
its called Toyz auto art (www.toyzautoart.com).
they all look really crisp. very shiney.
i asked the dude what the process is like.
i dont exactly remember, but they spray..then sand..respray..sand again..let it dry..do a final tint and clear coat.
you can contact them and ask.
they did my friends m6 and my other friends corvette
