X-Pipe!!
I understand if it's shifted at a high rpm it will cause damage. However, is it still bad if you simply coast back down to a dead stop and engage drive at 1k rpm?
Vadim,
What is your opinion about replacing the secondary cats with x-pipe and resonator with straight pipes? I've already replaced my resonator with straight pipes on the E63. It was pointed out to me that replacing the resonator with x-pipe is redundant since the stock exhaust has a H-pipe crossover before the secondary cats. Your thoughts?

Since you have already replaced your resonator with straight pipes, I would recommend replacing secondary cats with an X-pipe. It will not be a direct bolton, some additionall fabrication will be required.

Will the x-pipe that you have for sale fit the section 1 (secondary cats)?

how can I go ahead and order the X Pipe ? Please let me know

CEL only comes on when you remove the primary cats. If you remove the secondary cats you will most likely lose back pressure b/c you're removing the stock crossover that's integrated with the secondary cats and not to mention illegal. I intend to replace the secondary cats with a x-pipe thus negating the lose of back pressure. Anyone, please correct me if I am incorrect at this. There are shops that will remove the secondary cats if you know where to look and show them $$$.
i have spoken with several different shops, some have issues because one side of the pipe is round, and the other is oval shape. what are the benefit of removing the secondary cat and replace with an X pipe?

Also is the H on the stock system for smog or hp gains? Maybe cap off the stock H and install the X-pipe
If your removing one set of cats for hp gains why not remove them all for more gains
and find some o2s simulators
Here's the way I see the stock 63 exhaust system. The primary cats, secondary cats, resonator and stock mufflers are too restrictive for expelling the exhaust gas. My plan is to keep the primary cats for now, maybe replaced by sports cats in the future. The secondary cats with H-pipe crossover will be replaced by x-pipe. The resonator has already been replaced by straight pipes. With this set up the exhaust gas will flow better. Yes, I'm well aware that to realize the most gain in the exhaust system would be to change out the headers to either short or long headers. But, I'm doing the exhaust system in phases. I'm doing the headers last b/c it's the most expensive. As for why there is a stock h-pipe, it's to prevent the loss of back pressure. Anyway, I hope I'm not talking outta my **** here.
Cliffnotes: replacing secondary cats with x-pipe will allow for better flow of exhaust gas plus some weight savings, however small it might be.

Just speaking from personal knowledge/experience, an h-pipe will provide more torque down low (due to backpressure I believe) whereas an x-pipe will provide more horsepower in the higher rpms by allowing increased air flow. With any supercharged Mercedes, given the type of blower MBZ uses, I suggest going with an x-pipe instead of an h-pipe because there's already plenty of torque in the lower rpms.
i replaced my secondary cat and resonator with straight pipe, no crossover..
i notice low-end torque is lost but i feel high end engine pull better..

what are the effects if we remove the secondary cat? will it throw a Cel, and most muffler shop told me they wont do it.
