CLS63 AMG
Welcome and congrats.
Elsewhere on the CLS-AMG board I posted my earlier driving impressions re both the 07 M5 and the 06 55 I currently own. Having now driven the M5 some more, while it is a great car and the engine is simply ferocious and divine, especially in the Power/M mode, and the SMG works very well and shifts quickly when running the M5 hard/tracking it, in daily driving it simply is a damn annoyance, unnecessary and a PIA. I drove the M5 this w/e exclusively, and apart from the sheer pleasure of running the car hard and fast and adrenaline flowing and laughing while doing it, it was a pleasure to return to the more relaxed 55 and its autotranny today.
Again, the M5 is a more "technical" car than the M5 and less "alive" and communicative. Unlike others' opinions, I find the 55's steering wheel feel and control equal that of the M5's, although the 55's wimpy steering wheel itself need replacement. The M5's navi/GUI is contemporary, the COMAND v7.0/GUI legacy from a bygone era.
But there simply is no beating the exterior beauty and elagance of the CLS' pathbreaking exterior!!!

Fellow Comrades,
I am new to this forum as well as new to the BENZ world. Coming from driving an 07 E60 M5 to now driving a CLS63 AMG is a whole new & different experience. I miss the stiffness and roaring of the V10 but the beauty and vroom of the exhaust of a CLS63 makes up for it. I will not sit here and writea comparing essay on these two exotics but i must mention that they are the testament to the best 100% German Engineering. I have attached few pictures of my ex and my current. I look forward to a warm welcome from MB world as i once experienced from the BMW enthusiasts.

You have excellent taste.
Great cars you have driven , you will love the 63 for its well roundedness.

Guys..I have driven both cars. I have seen many time slips from many different tracks across the country. Every track is different. I read about the E63 that ran 11's BONE stock. Come to Palm Beach (MOROSO) and run that car, and you will not see a lower pass than 12.50. At the end of the day, A 55 is faster than a 63. Hands down. If you remember, I used to own a 550. I made the decision to get a preowned 55 (great deal by the way) over a brand new 63. Major reason was due to the mods. I know I will get s@*t for this, but this debate has been beaten to death a hundred times over. By all means, I am not taking anything away from the 63, but a 63 is a "big block" motor with very little tuning opportunities. Spray it , and you have a different animal.

... and the guy in my warehouse who drives a modded civic will walk a 55...
if you read the guys q, he asks, whats the difference, not "which is faster"... there are a lot of interior upgrades on the 63, as well as the totally different 7 speed transmission, to name a few
its always the cls55 owners (not all) who jump up to talk s%t about the 63s, (as well as claim how they got good deals as to the reason for getting them)
its pretty sad how you guys like to talk s%t when the cars are so similar... i think its probably an mbworld thing... or could be just an east coast thing....

Weather conditions and DA will affect 55s as well as 63s.....
If you run a bone stock CLS55 vs bone stock CLS63 in Moroso and the CLS63 couldn't break 12.50s due to elevation and weather conditions like you're saying, then I doubt the CLS55 would as well.
Again........ here in California at a DA of 3000 ft, we ran stock E55 vs stock E63 at 3 different tracks with different cars, and every time the E63 beat the E55 in E.T. and trap.
But then again, at -1200 ft DA and 40 F temperatures, the E55 did beat the E63 most of the time by about 0.2 seconds (but the E55 had better and wider tires). Density Altitude makes a big difference when racing. It can make an E63, for example, go from running high 11s (or even low 12s) to running low 13s!!! Yes, almost one whole second difference
In the end, both cars (in stock form) are just too close in performance to decide which is quicker or faster. But once you mod the 55, then there is absolutely no contest: the 55 will easily destroy a 63 (or so at least a Twin Turbo solution is reached ).

congratulations and welcome, CLS is indeed a very fine automobile, while the M5 is a beast, and just seems like the streets crave for it, the benz is candy for the eye. Detail is absolutely not over looked
as for the difference between the 55 and 63 we get them both here at work, while we dont get a good chance to take em on an open road, the upgrades on the interior are there. and man just the 8 value increase in the badge behind the car looks so damn good haha. Both are dead sexy cars, I look forward to jumpin in them.
But Also I doubt that the guy to get a 63 will care much that he could have saved some money and gotten the 55 to be just as fast. Im assuming the clients that purchase the 63 are getting them for other reasons.

- Steering wheel
- Shifters are on a 55, but are behind the wheel and not seen like the 63's.
- The speedo is differnt
- Brakes (55 is bigger 8pisten vs 6)
- Exhaust mufflers
- Engine
- Transmition (gear box).
- suspension might be different need to double check..
Non of the above has shown to hold an advatage over a 55 so far just by reading...
In a respective way its the same, but taken from a different angles
The new gear box thats coming out might stir things up a bit though

to best of my knowledge, the brakes on the 55 are from the SL65, 8 piston and larger surface contact area. AMG decided to use these (more expensive and "over" spec-ced) brakes on the 55 vs the newer 6 piston ones on the 63 as the newer ones had not yet been cleared for production use on the 63AMG series (they were also cheaper to produce and maintain). At least that's the story according to the tech maven/head of shop at the big MB dealership I take my car to.

Its pretty normal for the tech maven/head of shop at MB to give you information biasing you to believe your car is a bugatti veyron...
the guys at my MB service center do the same about my wifes slk350, saying its technically better than an slk55 in terms of ride etc.

copy all, bro. Frankly, makes no diff to me. The car is the car it is, regardless of what the shop maven says. I've had no braking problems or failures (at least so far except for the well known squeaking problems endemic on the AMG brakes).......so who cares..
