Why the onset of lack of posts in this forum?

I've noticed that there really isn't much activity going on in the CLS55/63 forums anymore...Why so? These days it seems like everyone has lost interest. Also, why are tuners overlooking this forum? VRP, for example, just realeased new carbon fiber airboxes for the 63 engine and posted about it in all forums, except the CLS. If I hadn't decied to browse the E63 forum I would have never come across it. Perhaps less people are buying CLS63's and even less want to modify them

+1. Feel the same. Everytime there's a new post, it's 360 forged car pix followed by 5+ attaboys.

360 is not the prob, there is little activity accross all the forums. I seem to only want to talk about racing which no other CLS owner does consistantly so for me I find myself in the sections where they have a drag racing or track discussion. I LOVE YOU GUYS , Kevin , you are simply WISE, and crafty!! I will try and focus more here and I think we can all benefit from keeping more on topic, and within our section.

Nobody can accuse me of "lack of posting" hahahahahahahh 4200 baby!!

So the nicest Benz is most definately the SEA EL S

Here are my thoughts, not meaning to be offensive but,

1. There are more E's then cls's ,so more activity there
2. They have a much higher modding friendly society & are knowledgeable of the car it self. After all we share the same tranny , engine, and chase.
3.CLS owners tend to focus on look modding more then power modding, yes there are some that have, but its mostly look (rims, lowering, tinting etc).
4.Do not really care for all the performance enhancing stuff
5.From looking at the figures from the ''how long do you let your car worm up', it shows not many are engine or mechanical inclined, hence the category grouping of ''I buy it cause it looks nice and feels comfy’’ for the CLS
6. also think CLS owners tend to be of an older age group

And then you have some of the odd ***** how are power hungry ...you know who you are

Other reason could be that we are silent killers justing hiding out and not showing what lurks in our murky engine bay depths. Till it suits us
but not me i am after tires only and rims n n n rocket launcher boost control!!

I'm new around here and am also disappointed in the lack of activity in the CLS forum as I am about to be a CLS owner later this summer when my '09 will arrive.

I don't track my cars and only do cosmetic mods, though have toyed with the idea of performance mods, so reading about what other owners are doing is very helpful and interesting to me.

I've found that model-specific forums tend to be very jingoistic and hostile to other brands and that gets a bit boring after a while. I've therefore been lurking in GTBoard.com which is part of the M5/M6 forum, as it covers all GT cars, including the CLS, but there's not a whole lot going on over there, either.

Maybe it's for the best because these forums can become highly addictive, almost as addictive as the cars themselves!

I cannot believe I already have 21k miles

Hang in there , this place will turn around, we simply do not have the numbers. The CLS seems to be rare in comparison to the E and SL , I think I even see more S class cars. This is a great combination, looks, speed and comfort. The CLS definately stands out!! Good luck with your New CLS 63.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
The CLS is the car that peaked my interest in MB. To me, it is the most beautiful car in production. Seriously, I can't think of another car that is more pleasing to look at. I wish my C resembled it more.

I think a case can be made that it's the most beautiful 4-door car in production today (although the Quattroporte is still a stunner), but I think the Aston Martin DB9 or Vantage would win most any beauty contest. In fact, when the CLS was just being introduced I debated buying it or the Maserati and decided to go with the QP instead because I knew it would be more exclusive and I wouldn't see myself coming and going. That was a few years ago and the QP is long gone but my appreciation for the CLS's graceful and sporting lines has not abated, hence the reason I am now about to become an owner.

I agree with juicee. I think there are just less of CLS owners on this forum. Maybe we can do an actual count of active CLS owners?

So, as a relatively new CLS 55 owner (as of Feb, 08), I must say I like this forum...I've learned a whole lot about cosmetic mods and am beginning to fall down that slippery slope myself

I have enjoyed the pics and they have given me many ideas...and by next week I'll have finished my mods and will post up my results...

I also agree that since the model is not as popular as the E and SL...and the cars are still pretty new and under warranty...some of the more technical, maintenance and operating issues that might be discussed are likely not relevant yet...I am happy this forum exists and will try to do my share to support it going forward...

Mike

It has definately died down. Waiting for someone to ask for the e55/e63 vs cls55/63 debate again. Ive been over at the Events & Gatherings forum. Have we just run out of things to talk about?

Kevin M, do you know how to mod the cls mirrors to autofold like the s/c class? Thanks, If anyone here will know , it will be Kevin.

I had the mirror fold option installed last summer. You actually have to take the mirrors off the car and change out the bottom bracket. It is a new bracket that is motorized, then it pops back on. Also you need to get the euro mirror switch which fits right in place of the one you have. I dont know much about the parts since I had Sunil do it but the install did seem to be tougher than most do it yourself jobs. I know its not much help to you but it can be done by the right person in about an hour.
As for the topic about the lack of post, got my set of 360 wheels delivered today and going to get them installed later today.....but I won't post pictures unless you guys want me to. Don't want to beat a dead horse.

Joemoney beat me to it, I also believe the computer has to be programmed to turn on the feature once the parts are installed. Cost is around $600 if I recall.

Joe lets see the pics, I love any pics of the CLS!

Please Post Vid!

joemoney/Kevin,

Thanks for the direction! who/where is sunil? I'm in NY. i asked around the dealer some told me it they didnt see how it could be done blah blah. So we'll see. Do they actually replace the bottom of the mechanized mirrors off of another car like the E? or do they just take the guts? Any help would be much appreciated and will be used to make hopefully a somewhat tutorial for the cls owners here. It might be out of my technical reach but not kevin's!

Yup, I got my power folding mirrors from SunilP also. He had to replace part of the mirror hardware and the switch on the door to add the power fold button, turning the original 2 botton switch to 3. He also had to update the computer to recognize the power folding mirrors in the dash menu so that it can be turned on or off to fold with the locking and unlocking of the car.

I also got the convex mirrors installed at the same time, minimizing blind spots!

This section is actually fairly active in comparison to others like S, ML, CL, SLK, etc. The majority of performance-related discussion is in the E55/E63 forum, its always been like that.

He is right as far as the bracket needs to be replaced off of a euro model car. For the E class I believe you can use a bracket from an 05 or earlier model since they came with the folding option. I just got my wheels on so I am going to take some pics hopefully tomorrow once there is some daylight. As far as you tube videos, although I am 26 I have no idea how to upload a video. If you give me some instructions I can give it a shot but not promising anything. Sunil is/was on the forum. He is from Houston and he made a post about traveling to San Francisco on a business trip. He did the install when he was in between meetings. He was very helpful since he has a star machine and can hook up his laptop to make the appropriate software upgrades needed to handle the new hardware. Sort of sad that he had to program an 07 to perform like an 05, but that is the way MB went when they started cutting costs.
