I pick up a set of wheels for my CLS 55. Front wheel is 20x9 and rear is 20x10.5

i need to pick up a set of tires. i am not too familiar with tire sizes but i plan on going with 255/30/20 front and 305/25/20 rear. would that work? or do i need a different set up?

Those are the correct tire size for your wheel fitment. Go with Falken FK-452's or Contisportcontact3's or ToyoT1R's.

The front is a little off, rear is ok.
go with a 245-30-20 up front, Nitto NeoGen makes a good setup for a good price. 305-25-20 rear is fine. An 11" rear wheel would have been a better fit, but the 10.5 will do. You can also get Conti Sport for more money. Pirelli also makes a setup in these sizes, but I'm not crazy about them. I've had them all on my CLS, I like the Nitto neo Gen best, and you can get the set for under $1k.

what are the major difference between 255/30/20 and 245/30/20?
I might not be able to back out of the tires that i already purchase.

The 255 is just wider, if the car is lowered alot it may rub on bumps. Also it's not going to look perfect, it will have a slightly bubbly, large tire look to it as opposed to the 245. Some may never notice, but those of us who are really into this stuff will see that the size isn't right. It will work, don't get me wrong, but we only recommend 245's for CLS's and they fit perfect.

I clear 255-30 in the front with it slammed. No rub whats so ever. The main thing is offset.

If you look on tire rack under CLS63, they say do a 255-30 and 295-25.

I am running a 255-30 and 305-25 and its perfect.

I am not at all attacking you but I cant get over how you like a 245 over a 255 tires up front. It should NEVER rub with a 255 as long as you set the off-set correctly. Thats the stock width tire!

Going down in side seems pointless as it just reduces your contact patch and increases understeer etc. You get less braking ability and you have a stretched looking tire when you go down a step in size.

Im just curious why you like that size so much? Again not an attack just more of debate!

On a 9 inch wheel I would run a 265 or 275 with a 305 rear. Just need to get the off-set correct so it does not rub. W211's can run 265's up front so I assume a CLS can too!

I think the widest you can go up front on CLS is 255. That's based on everything that I've read and researched while looking for tire size.

on the 20x9 and 20x10.5 you have a few options.

the conti sport 3's are back in stock for the rear 305's.

255/30 20 SHOULD be the tire you run up front as long as the rims are for the CLS or SL. As for the rear with a 10.5 you can also get away with a 295/25 20. If you want one of the best setups and cost isnt too big of an issue, PS2 in 255/30 20 and 295/25 20

Yeah, you're right, I'm just thinking about our setups. On all our CLS's we run 245's and it fits perfect, based on our fitment, if the car is lowered it may rub with 255, but it's true other wheel fitments may work. We try and get our wheels perfectly flush with the fender so the fender sits right on top of the tire, and there's really no room for a larger tire in this case.

Thanks for your correction.
