Am I Nuts? S5 for CLS55
I've been a member of the forum for quite some time but have posted only a couple of times.
Anyway, what do you guys think of this...trading a CLS 55 for an S5.
I have a CLS55, silver with ash interior, pretty much every option but distronic. List price was just a tick over $99,000. Car now has 30,000 miles on it and has factory warranty until January, 2010. Stock except for built-in K40, Lojack and aftermarket wheels. I am the second owner, having purchased the car in May of 2007 for $69,000. (I've put a little over 8K miles on the car – it's not driven during the winter or in bad weather and is in excellent condition). Love the Benz but just looking down the road a bit.
My dealer called the other day and we were shooting the breeze and he asked if I might be interested in a 2009 Audi S5, Deep Sea Blue, black leather with alcantarra inserts, tip trans, tech package, nav package, B&O sound system, dark varrona wood trim. It's supposed to be his demo.
He said the difference would be between 8-10K out the door, as he hasn't received official pricing from Audi on the 09s as of yet. By the way, the offer on my car is $50,000. That's $19,000 in the shorts plus another 8-10,000. Ouch!
So, do I keep the Benz until warranty runs out, keep the Benz and purchase an aftermarket warranty in 2010 or trade for the Audi?
I think I know the answer but would appreciate any input.
Sorry for the long post.
Gone but not forgotten:
2005 E55
2001 Porsche TT
1997 993 TT

1966 427 Corvette
and a lot more

no trade in
you'll be disapointed in S5, but if you do decide to go for it - then try to sell your car privately. once you find the buyer, bring him/her to the dealer. Stealership should do all the paperwork, you'll get the asking price on the CLS but the dealer will process this as a trade in for a small tax deduction. I know it's a lot to go through, lol. Basically if you have the time, then try to sell CLS privately.

Audi's depreciate more than MB's. The CLS 55 is nicer than an S5, IMO. The A5/S5 is getting hype since it's totally new, but eventually the fad will fade away sooner than you think. I'd take a CLS55 anyday! Don't throw away something good that you already have...

Just out of curiousity, try posting this question on an Audi forum and see the responses. I'd bet they are quite different.
Between the two, I'd keep the CLS. If they were talking about an RS5 though, I'd already be doing the paperwork.

+1 I would take the chance on an RS5 but not the S5.

I'm Back to Normal
Whew..that was close. What was I thinking.
Must have been delirious for a moment![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
I've regained my senses and there's no S5 in my future.
And yes, I did post in an Audi forum. All said S5.
Kinda had to laugh at most of them. Here's spattering of comments:
"Better design, better interior, better performance period in the wet/snow. Can't count how many AMG's I've left spinning at the light."
"The S5 has better lines and a much better interior (IMHO). Plus the low end torque of the S5 will leave most cars at the light..but top end is a different story...But still see 5 or more CLS's every day to my one. It's funny when a an owner of a $100,000 CLS ogles my car...actually happened at the office"
"and I must say, the Audi is knocking the spots off the Merc in all matters."
And on it goes.
Finally had to chime in again and asked if anyone over there had actually driven a CLS55 or any AMG 55 or 63 for that matter. 325 rated ft lbs of torque is a long-long way from 500 plus. Now I hope to see one at a stop light someday.
Anyway, haven't checked back for a response. Can't imagine it'll be very pleasant. We shall see.
And thanks for the responses.

No doubt the S5 is a nice car, good looks and one of the best interiors at to that! But why don't you testdrive the S5 and find yourself really comfortable
back in the CLS
