CLS63 engine dies in car washes
Searched, but didn't find much. I have an '07 CLS63 AMG and about 1 in 3 times I go through the car wash, my engine dies. Doesn't bog, just shuts down like the key was turned off. Starts right back up, but I'm always paranoid it won't and I'll get rear-ended. Anyone else? Still under warranty of course, but wondering if there is a simple fix I can do.

Agreed it sounds electrical. It starts back right away and doesn't happen after I'm out of the wash...really weird. Just afraid of that one day it won't. There's no attendant at the exit of my local car wash to stop the line.

I've had this experience before with another car.. you guys are correct. it should be electrical.. In my situation, I had install aftermarket stereo system, and they ran power to the amp from the batter in the front, when they cut through the fire wall, water leak into the electrical system everytime i went through a car wash.. it was a very easy fit... apply rubber silicone sealent around the opening and completely water proof that area... engine never die again... good luck. !!!!

happened to me in a CLS 500 once. I put the car's left wheel on the conveyor and then proceeded through. The parktronic turned red and engine shut off in the middle of the wash, it pretty much thought it was in an accident. I got out of the car wash and I put the car back into park turned the key off and turned it on, it started up but the transmission didnt want to move from park to drive, it took about 5 minutes. After I finaly got into drive it felt like the steering wheel lost power steering and it was very hard to turn the wheel and I got wierd indicators, for one the ESP light would not shut off and it would tell me there was an ESP malfunction.
lesson learned? never go through an automatic car wash.

Talked to the dealer and they believe it's a wheel sensor triggering an error causing the shutdown.

U know mine did that one time and I never took it back to a Automatic Carwash since. The car barely sees rain.

I know you may say you don't have time for a hand wash, but when you see all those swirls, spider lines, etc. you will wish you never went to an automatic.
I have always done the hand wash, but your problem is very strange. I would go get that checked out at MB workshop.

the last car i drove thru a car was tunnel was a 1980 datsun station wagon and it didnt cut off, but surely... never my benz, especially a black one
