Ready to jump into 21" wheels - think I found the one!

Hey guys, I have had 20" Asanti 128's on my CLS55 since I bought it new in 2006. Well with another summer rolling in, its time for something new.

I have chrome wheels now and I have grown to DESPISE them!! I have actually contemplated putting my stocks back on I hate the look of chrome so much.

I scoped out these d2forged wheels on a lexus and thought they looked hawt. Our cars can support a 21" wheel no problem, I kinda thought my car would do these babies more justice than a old Lexus! (i keed...i keed... ). This car has 21x9.5 and 21x11.5, I have 20x9 and 20x11 now. I wonder if I could squeeze another .5" on my car front and rear?

I would do the same finish, Brushed Aluminum, HI-Polished Windows, full clearcoat, chrome lip.

You guys think they would look good on my car?

I think powdering coating your current wheels would be a fresh look...

20's

are already to big.Are you driving the car or just posing?
Go for it if you don't mind every other benz model on the road kicking you to the curb.
look at that offset up front,if you turned into a driveway over a pebble,it would make fender contact. The rears don't look like they would fare any better.
What ever rows your boat

Well if you talking about the Lexus, yeah thats a pretty aggressive setup, I would not go that crazy with it.

I just liked the look of the wheels themselves. I do drive my car, so no fender touching and etc will fly with me.

I thought about it, but with my car being so low, I think the 20's look a LITTLE smallish at certain times / angles. I know there are a couple other CLS guys here with 21's so I'm not the only one.

Perhaps I'll have to just go all out and do it rather than sitting around pondering! Thanks for the input though!

Not that I would ever go any bigger than a 20" on a CLS here is a guy that did some 22's on his. Took him all day, some grinding and lots of work.

Thanks so much for your input. I want to go larger than 20" to fill up the wheelwell a little more, but 22's just change the entire stance of the car too much. The CLS has a coupe profile, and with 22's it just sits too high, even when lowered!

From what I have seen, if I can get my lowering set right, the car will still have that coupe, sporty profile, while filling up the wheelwell just a bit more.

To each his own, but I would never put 22's on a CLS, save that for the S-Class or CL.

Renntech has a lowering module that sits the car just about perfect with some 20" wheels on it. Gets rid of the gap in the rear to a good looking setup. That module is expensive though.

And those 22"s look like crap on that car. Looks like a 4x4 ghetto sled.

A

21 won't fill the wheel wells any more than a 20 or a 19.They should all be the same rolling diameter tire,so if you drop the car you will just do the same drop and not have the bandaid rubber look and ride of the 21's.

its his money and let him do want he wants. I can gurantee you that you will have pleny of bents rims in the future if you go 21's. Most guys that have 21's dont use them as daily drivers.

If you are going with a 21, I would strongly sugguest that you do not do a 5 spoke wheels. The spokes look too long making the them thinner at the ends.

Go with a mesh settup or multi spoke like one of the other members with the white cls and 21 inch HRE- his setttup looks like it fits

I hope you don't intend to drive this car around NYC more than once.

I cringe when I hit potholes on my stock 18s.

Wow, can you say chill pill??

I think he's on to something, I don't know if you guys saw pictures of his car lowered on 20s already, so therefore please stop suggesting he lowers his car and put 20s.

Now IMO based on pics of your car with 20s, 21's will suit the car perfectly and the the same pothhole you avoid on 21's you will have to avoid on 20s so why not, Go for it.

I appreciate your input, but I think you may be just taking things to the extreme...just a tad. That being said, thanks for the opinion, I can appreciate your viewpoint.

I'll have to see if Mr IRS is nice to me at refund time, and try to swing another set of wheels! I'm stuck on 21's though, can't get away from it!

My 21's are no different than rolling on 20's. If you hit a pothole you will suffer the same damage. I've also noticed that 3 piece wheels are more likely to bend, vs a one piece wheel.

I've ordered a new set, and they are also 21's. My car has been on jack stands for 4 months, so I can't wait to get em.
