thats weird because im 100% sure we got the exact same bulbs...did you try flipping them? I know when i put them directly in to the plastic casing they didnt work, they barely fit in there. Then i tried putting them directly into the socket and i remember they didnt work the first few times...i tried again and they worked...so i left them in the socket, cut the plastic piece that holds them in place to it would just slide in...give it another shot im sure they'll work

2006 CLS 55 AMG
Brand New to Mods

Ok Need some help here.....I went through this thread and I am very interested in replacing some bulbs on my car but have not attempted this. Is it easy to do? I have the CLS 55 AMG and just got it. I would like to replace the license plate lights and need advice on what else makes sense in the front.

I got the city lights from ebay (below link) and they work perfectly. Ed at HMS put them in for me, took some force but he got them in there after a couple of mins.

yeah thesee bulb are directional...its easier if you have a volt meter.. it will let you know instead of guessing which side is positive n negative

Great upgrade guys. I will attempt this shorty.

I also can understand the hit or miss approach when it comes to lights from ebay. I bought led blinkers for my 7 series and they had to be cut just to fit inside the back of the tail light.

The LEDs I can get have a load resistor that is embedded to prevent blowing the LED from voltage surge, and a diode is implanted to protect the LED from reverse polarity.

Could you post a pic I tried to do it on my car today with no luck. I just checked the thread and it does make sense, but I want to know what I am going to do before I attempt something I might regret. Also on the plate lights, I tried to unscrew the casing for the lights but they won't come out should I open the whole trunk cover to reach them?

use a flat head or try to pry them out some how, once the screws are out they should pop out. One of my LEDS started to flicker so i sent them back under warranty, they should be here in a few days and once they come back ill post pics of when i install them again.

ok here's the DIY

The Bulbs

1.Remove the two screws on the plastic thing that hold the bulbs
Once removed, the bulb should be attached to the plastic holder, take the bulb out of that
2.Cut the plastic holder so that it looks like the picture below (i used wire cutters)

Dont worry the stock bulb will still work without it being mounted in the plastic holder

3.Put the LED bulb in the socket, it is directional and may take a second to light up

4.Place the plastic cover back in and screw it

5.Repeat on the other side

Took me 10 minutes tops

Hope that clarified things for everyone

I couldn't get mine out originally as well, i was twisting them thinking they will unlock and come out, turned out your supposed to simply pull them out not turn them. I had a shop do it for me after i couldn't twist them out.

The shop that put mine in had a bit of trouble getting them in as well, he used a bit of force and got them in, if that doesn't work, file a bit of the side off that go into the socket
