There's no data that would support the fact that CPO cars are less likely to break down then not certified units that were well taken care of and accident free. CPO=Marketing Trick to make buyers such yourself more comfortable with purchasing an used car and at the same time be able to charge inflated price for virtually same product. Good luck!

You can either look for an independent inspector in the area where the car is located or what I have been asking people is if i do purchase the car, i would require them to take it to a mercedes dealership to get a PPI beforehand. If they say no or they are too busy, i walk away. Obviously it would be at your cost.

The CLS55 I wanted sold 2 days ago waited to long. So know i'm looking at the CLS63 again. I wanted to thank everyone for there advice and thoughts, just gotta make a choice now.

Thanks again

I bought CPO and I have to tell you I am very pleased that I did. It cost me a few bucks BUT I got: Brand new OEM tires, Brand new brakes, every ding/scratch/imperfection 100% perfect, etc. I also get free valet for my car with a loaner for as long as I own it. They have also been quite cooperative with using the warranty on grey items like a brand new steering wheel because the suede was wearing after 3 years. It adds a YEAR of warranty on to the car to boot. You can call it marketing but honestly I think for a few hundred on 54k car it is splitting hairs.

Do your homework and get a good price and you can do fine at a dealer.

How many miles are on your car and when did you buy it?

Ok, I'm happy for you and best of luck with the car! This however still doesn't change the fact that you overpayed for what is called a USED CAR with the only difference that yours is called CPO and has new OEM tires($1300 with alignment) and brake pads (less then $1000). As long as your car is under factory warranty you get loaner each time there's warranty service performed no matter what. Replacing a steering wheel under factory warranty should not be a problem either as long as you prove the item is defective. My vehicle also came scratches, dings and prior paint free. Now coming to a final issue of the extra year of warranty, today I got quoted by Chrysler that offered 3 years extended service and unlimited miles for my CLS for $2600 which also offers a loaner program as well. The Chrysler program is like brand new car warranty with a $100 deductible. Concluding this I still would take my purchase over yours any day. My car was close to $44k with all the fees. Let's say I would need to buy pads and tires, even though I don't, and the extra warranty that's longer than yours it would still be over $5k less then yours. CPO is a form of different marketing of an used car. I believe any professional marketer would agree with that statement. Look at it this way, at least you bought the right car!!!

I think if you look around long enough you will find a good deal. I've been looking patiently for the past 3 months and I came down to 2 of them.

Car 1) 2006 CLS55 with 24k miles, Renntech PKG2, Lorinser side skirts, Custom Rims, Clear Bra, negotiated price $45k pending PPI from local mercedes dealership and still under warranty

Car 2) 2006 CLS55 with 27k miles, fully loaded with 030 package, $46.5K and still under warrany.

I think both of them are really good deals but i am leaning towards Car 1.

Regarding CPO, i think if it makes you feel better to pay more for it then so be it. Its almost like insurance, if it makes you sleep better at night then who cares what anyone says. Pay the extra money.

I just had a new baby boy so my wife has me on a budget of $50k total for car and taxes, etc... so i gotta pick and choose the best car for me.

Will put pictures up after I get my new car.

And thanks everyone for their advice and guidance in the journey of mine!!

Congrats on your new baby boy! What a wonderful gift to your life.

Not congrats on your wife putting you on a budget, or you allowing it j/k

BTW, the loaded car under warranty w/the 030 package would be my pick. The 030 is more desirable IMO and you'll love the limited-slip rear diff. Good luck!

Cool. Hey I sleep better....lol. It was my first used high performance car and I wanted MB warranty with a middle man on my side. I come from the service business and trust me I know they make 10-15% on me by reselling from auction. Conversely I will not pay someone to tile a floor in my house.......I can do that myself......point is some things you are novice at and decide to pay for a service. I WISH I had the knowledge of what to do to purchase from auction......trust me. That said CPO if you negotiate properly can be an ok option with some benefits. Not sure above on exact pricing differences as we would have to get down to the exact options etc.........but not my point. Just saying it is ok to do either for the original question asker! Hope that helps.

I actually agree with you to a degree. As im doing some home remodeling myself. Piece of mind in areas you are not completely knowledgeable on is worth its price in gold.

+1 CPO is just that, a marketing ploy and it has worked well. There is no difference in a CPO car and a non CPO car other then the warranty. The condition of the car means nothing to MB. The only requirement is they bring the CPO car up to standards. My friend runs Crown MB and said as long as the CarFax is clean, they can CPO a car with paint work. That is a scam if you ask me. MB CPO states the car has no major paint work but as long as the CF is clean its up to the dealer to report this. Also, I would rather have a car that has been serviced regulary by the 1st owner as required then one that MB brought up to speed in one service visit just to CPO it. My 2 Cents!
