Exclamation CLS55: Transmission Fluid question ...

Heya guys. Im just about to do my Transmission oil change and wanted to ask you for some help. I currently have the usual "ATF" oil inside my tranny, and have noticed that when the transmission is in MANUAL, sometimes the downshifts are quite rough, especially from 3rd to 2nd and its been getting worse recently.

I have downloaded an interesting PDF (see attached) and regarding transmission oil is states the followign

For late model vehicles with the 7-speed transmission,
use only Mercedes-Benz Part Number
A 001 989 45 03 10 automatic transmission
fluid. This fluid can also be used for vehicles
with the 5-speed automatic transmission.
As an option, the 5-speed transmissions can
also use Part Number A 001 989 21 03 10 automatic
transmission fluid. However, this fluid
cannot be used in the 7-speed automatics.

The oil i have Used is A 001 989 21 03 10.... what difference will it make if i bought the newer A 001 989 45 03 10? Do they have different properties? Can something go wrong if i replaced it with the new oil? Should i expect better gear changes

I just had my transmission flush yesterday. Are you having the dealer do it?

nope. independant mechanic i trust

Dont have much choice anyway, the oil pan seal is leaking so it has to go.

Any suggestions on trasmission fluid?

Hmm i recommend using the fluid that is for the 5spd or whatever MB recommends. For my transmission flush, the dealer used what was specified for the 7speed. I hear flushing the 7 speed is a pain due to that fact that you have to wait till the transmission is cold. I dont know if MB has changed anything for the fluid but if you ask them im sure that they can hook you up. Is this the first flush for your cls?

You should be fine with the oil you used. I'm curious, how do you know that the oil you used is the "older" one?

Nope... I change tranny oil every 10000miles... I do drive like a lunatic though, and there are only 32 speed cams in the whole of my country , so that figures

p.s. DAS shows that tranny needs 8 liters. I normally refill with 6.5liters, and that costs me 111$ + 10$ for oil filter and 16$ for new seals. It really has to cool down overnight and the job costs around 60$

As long as it's the RED and meets mb236.14 (original spec was 236.12) spec fluid you are good to go. The 236.15 BLUE trans fluid will not work. Hope this helps.
