ESP Malfunction and Power Loss
New to this forum, but after reading lots of post i found it very informative and happy to be here.
So, i have this CLS55 AMG which i bought after it got into a major crash. I figured that i would save a lot of cash and it turns out that i do achieve some saving, but there's been lots of unpredicted spendings.
So, the body of the car is fully recovered and painted into its original color. The only problems that are left are:
- ESP and ABS are lit on the dashboard
- The steering wheel is very stiff
- The car behaves like its engine is only 3 litres. In fact, my friend's 530i BMW does my CLS
Apparently, the car doesn't get any boost from the SC.So i went to the official MB dealer and they said that i need to replace the following parts: ESP module, ECU Module, All the wiring under the hood, MRM module. They calculated the total sum of about $17K, lol

Now, i asked them to give me the print out of Star Diagnose. And here are the actual errors:
ECU:
- P208F, Recirculating Air Flap rectutator (actutator?) is damaged (i am paraphrasing)
ESP:
- 5B16, Check module N47-5 (ESP, PML and BAS)
- 4D41, ECU module is not identified or incorrect
- 4D41, Check steering angle module
Interestingly, official MB guys don't even attempt to repair the modules. And they are not even sure if the problem is with wiring or with modules themselves and they decide to replace both. Another funny thing is that they didn't comment problem with Air Flap in any way.
After them, i went to another unofficial MB service station which specializes in chip-tuning and what not. After a day or two of diagnosing, the guy told me that:
- ESP gets the power and is connected via CAN and it is enough to say that there are no problems with wiring and he still couldn't get it working. Thus, ESP should be replaced.
- The problem with ECU is not because it is incorrect or defective, but rather because of the problem with Recirculating Air Flap. He said, that in official documentation for this car, Mercedes recommends to check this part, among other things, and before replacing ECU try to fix the Flap first. I don't know if its tru or not, but he assured me that i don't need a new ECU.
So, now i have to buy new or used ESP and this Air Flap.
Now, guys, before i spend a fortune for these parts, do you have any comments? I was looking on forums and it seems like no one on the net has ever replaced this part
I don't want to buy it to later find out that it was not what i needed
