Will a CLS55 motor work with 7 speed transmission?

Hi guys. I wanted to know if a 55 motor will work well with a 7 speed transmission? I'm purchasing a 55 motor and will be doing a motor swap soon. I will have the ECU and wiring harness with the motor.

Thanks for any info guys?

Supposedly the 55 motor has too much torque for the 7sp tranny to handle. I am sure you could get some stronger gears put in the tranny to hold it though.

I'll bet the SLS with the 5.5 engine's 7 speed tranny can handle anything you can throw at it. Check out if you need to reprogram the TCU and the ECU due to the engine and tranny swaps.

Very interesting project. Please keep us informed.

Thanks guys. I will be picking up the motor on Tuesday. Just want to get the motor in the car and make sure all is well. The guy that I'm buying the motor from has the 5 speed tranny that was with it. Just a little over my budget to get both. I can get the 5 speed tranny later on if things don't work out. Should be putting the motor in next weekend.

A pic of the motor :

Taking that motor out this week. Sold the Kleemann SC and selling the motor. Might be selling the 7 speed tranny as well.

Yes! Very sure reprograming is needed. I have two people in mind to help me with that, which I think is the hardest part of the project. Should have the motor in by next weekend. Can't wait to get someone to hack into the ECU to get the motor running.

Depends on needs. With a heavy car and type of motor, and with a few additional mods, 400 RWHP is max. My need for power has increased over the past few years.

Brent, I am very interested in seeing how this project turns out. I am sure you will make a thread.

7 speed

I've actually heard the same that the torque of the 55 is too much for the 7 speed and that's why they did not put the 7 speed in the 55.

Difficult is an understatement from what I heard.

Still if someone wanted absolutely to have the only one in the world type of car............

Just came in from the garage with the help of another MBworld member, Money-one, who installed the same motor in his C class:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...-you-cant.html

We installed all of the oil cooler lines, and heat exchanger hoses. Just need to get a new upper and lower radiator hose and it's finished. Programming the car will start on Wednesday. I will start a new thread next week.

The V12 is doing great. It was not easy but we finally have turned her on. , She goes in for plumbing and turbo fitting next week. I hope to have her completed by Nov.
