Idling noise levels
Hi
I've had my car for over a year now.... still love it as much as the first day i brought it
i dont know if its just me but i feel that the engine idling noise is louder than when i first brought it.... the rev needle is smooth and very steady...
it has always been serviced from the stealer on time with no services missed.....
just thought id get some feedback on how you guys find your idiling noise.... neathless to say that the supercharger makes its own sound .....
are you guys able to hear your engine idling when you are in the car??
menioned it to the stealer but they say its normal.... gona try to find a reptuable amg specialist to have a look
thanks for the input guys....

In 15 deg.F. weather this morning, I noticed the supercharger whine was louder than normal, probably due to the cold grease in the bearings.
I actually thought it was a siren from an emergency vehicle.

I don't have same engine on my CLK55, but I did notice some clicking sounds and slight vibration at idle as well...particularly when the engine is cold and/or it's much colder outside. My indy guy(who previously managed 80 techs at MB dealer) had changed a few wires, but it's still not as smooth/quiet as my prior S55/E55. He did change a few wires recently, but I didn't notice a difference. The motor mount/transmission mounts are new for me, but previously I did have rough idle due to the mounts.

Thanks for the replies, its not so much a tick tick noise, just generally louder, but then again you can hear like a faint tick tick noise similar to that of when the tapits are worn? I will try to post a recording of the sound as soon as poss
What would a tick tick noise indicate?
Still haven't had time to take it in for a check up, will do soon
Thanks again

Here's what my MB indy set - master tech, and won many awards from MB. Although this is just speculation/opinion, I figured no harm in sharing.

"AMG engine are built looser so there is less friction, and are normally louder than the regular version. I suspect your car was "run hard and put away wet" by a previous owner.
Possible causes of the noise are: excessive piston / cylinder wall clearance, timing chain / sprocket / tensioner wear, valve lifters / rocker shaft wear.
I don't know that anything needs to be done at this point. If it starts knocking when warm it's a problem."

I've had My 2006 CLS 55 AMG for a little over two years now. This idling ticking noise is one of the first things I noticed. I asked the technician at Mercedes if I should be concerned about it. He explained that it is normal. He said it is the roller rockers. Later, I noticed that other 55 AMGs had the same ticking noise.

The engine noise is consistent at the same noise level its been for the last two years. I drive the car normally aggressive and at times race it at the local drag strip pulling consistent 12.6 1/4 mile runs. I have done no engine modifications. I have experienced no problems with any part of the car. I currently have 30k miles on the odometer. Hope this helps.
