CLS55 or CLS63 gets better mpg?

I think it's going to depend on wether it is tuned. I am getting...
21/24 MPG When it was stock.*
19/21 *MPG tuned
The power that it now has is well worth the trade off in MPG.

I don't think anyone buys a CLS55/63 if they're after fuel economy, but those are some pretty impressive MPG numbers you're getting. If I'm very light footed on the highway I can get 22-23 MPG, but there's no way I'd get even close to 21 in the city. My city average is in the 15-16 MPG range. Stock. We're heading out on a 750 mile trip tomorrow, so I'd love to know your secret.

It does get better MPGs in C. Other than that I “generally” take off from red lights slow and don’t drive aggressive. Use the cruise control when you can and coast when approaching a red light.

Trust me when I am alone and there is no traffic I drive it like it was meant to be driven! LOL With that much HP under the hood I’m like a kid in a candy store, just cannot wait to get into that throttle!
Heavy foot = 16/19
That was the worst I have ever seen it!

I totally agree with what has been said, the decision btwn the two should not based on mpg, or should this even be a decision factor when considering this ultimate machine. I test drove both when purchasing, the driving experiences, feel, and sound of both are different in my opinion, these were therefore my decision factors.

I care less and less about the cost of a liter of fuel everytime I nail the throttle. If you are concerned about MPG please go buy a prius and leave these cars to people who will drive them in anger like they are supposed to be...

Co-sign. I doubt MPG is that vital of a factor to persuade you to buy one over the other. But WOW..I don't even get that many mpg's in my non-amg on the highway and I have taken a trip that had my gauge go from full to E before ~375 miles. Of course I have a heavy foot.lol

Just a simple question. More out of curiosity because the 55 is supercharged w/ a 5 speed vs. the 63 being NA w/ 7 gears... pretty funny the reaction people get.
The reality is my CLS63 gets the best MPG of all my cars.

Does it matter how long I've been here? I have a CLS AMG. I have as much right to be here and comment here as anyone else. I'm not the only one who thinks its a pretty ridiculous question so bite me you phag.

You immediately became defensive and pointed to a car as proof of your worthyness shows your extreme lack of self confidence.
You resorted to calling people names when things got hot shows how much of a low class you are.
This forum is most comprised of people who are helpful and cordial to each other. When a low life like you came on and making stupid judgement statement on a real question, you will get called out.
Hard as it will be for you, try to act like a civilized adult. You may find that's it's just impossible, but you can tell you momma that you tried.

CLS55 16.4 mpg avg for life of vehicle
I drive reasonably , not racing from light to light like a 17 year old in a mustang GT but also not driving like an old lady in a corolla.
Transmission is in sport mode 98% of time. Car is totally stock.
I commute in NY metro area so a lot of stop and go traffic.
For the performance that I get, I am quite happy with this mpg.
Previous car was an e39 bmw 540i m sport auto with 282 HP v8 which averaged 18.3 mpg.
For almost 200 more HP and Car and Driver tested 0 -60time of 4.2 secs vs 5.6 for the bimmer, I will take the trade off of 2 mpg less.
I also have an audi S4 with 4.2 litre v8 340hp and it gets SL worse mpg than the CLS55 but that is the dirty secret or price one pays for ( the advantages of) all wheel drive.
I hope this is helpful to those interested.

The 63 should get better mileage. Is the CLS55's supercharger on a clutch like the E55? I think that save some gas if you don't have a heavy foot erhm......fn3423
