Dreaded camshaft adjuster...
I've noticed a noise in my engine so I brought it up to my dealer, after 3 days of inspecting they came to the conclusion its my left bank that's at fault. My S.A says I need both intake and exhaust camshaft adjusters along with intake and exhaust actuators and new lifters and head bolts. The total being $4900. Labor being $1400 and parts being $3500. I have done a bit of research and I have found the same parts, being sold through an authorized re-seller totaling around $1800 (w/o shipping). I'm sure an independent shop can do the labor for $1000 or less. This begs the question, do I go with dealer or do I source it all my self?
If you live in California, that part is covered for 7 years / 70k miles under the emissions warranty.
My SA didn't bring it up until I broke open the warranty manual and pointed to the section that specifically stated that it was covered.

Is this common among 63s?
here is a link to the 2011 warranty, which states that the camshaft adjuster is covered under the Federal Emissions warranty:

State Laws
In California, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are covered for 3-years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, in order to meet these states' stringent anti-smog standards. In addition, certain emission-related parts are covered for 7-years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.
