Steering position sensor
Just got the car 2 weeks ago and during the second trip the ESP light went on and a message like: ESP inoperable see manual!
Research on the web showed that mostly the brake switch causes such pain...the low cost gave me some relief.
Today at the stealer the shock![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Steering position sensor malfunction...costs 6500HK$ what is about 700US$+
Sure I complained that on a top of the line Benz this should not happen, but with sensors it doesn't matter "low miles"...the age kills them.
Finally they gave me a quote of nearly 7000HK$ and still have to wait 2 weeks for the part to arrive![crazy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)
Not a nice start but hopefully this will be sorted out as long I own the car...

I replaced my steering angle sensor last year. Not too difficult to do. The part cost about $200.
Looking at the old one it appears that the grease lubricating the assembly gets on the lens for the LED's that measure the angle. Cleaning it up would likely fix it but I already had the part and didn't want to do it twice.

Yes, steering angle sensor is the correct name, sorry.
I choose the stealer taking care of this as I was not sure where the sensor in detail sits and what had to be done.
I do many things on my car but playing around on the airbags was never my favorite. Too many stories about airbags triggered by false handling.
The biggest hit was once a MITSUBISHI dealer in Bangkok what rejected me to swap a steering wheel to the leather one because of airbag...even I told them that this would cause me canceling the purchase. Long story short...I bought a chevy.
