CLS550 2008 TRUNK AUTO OPEN/CLOSE PROBLEM

Just happened without any serious causes - the trunk of my Mercedes cls 550 2008 stopped to operate. When I open trunk with the button or manually, the trunk unlocked, but didn’t open fully to top open position, just unlocked and open up for an inch or two. To open fully I have to push trunk up manually. To lock – there are 2 lid red buttons. When I press any of them I hear the noise, but trunk didn't close. Look like the trunk operates by the electric motor (to close) and springs to open. In my understanding it could be a mechanical problem, but I can be wrong. Please let me know if somebody gets involved in a similar problem and know how to fix it. Thank you.

My first CLS did that to me sometimes. I pushed it open and closed for a couple days, then it fixed itself. Try pushing it full open, then hold the door switch open for 5 seconds, same with closed, especially if it closes after that.

Check the wiring harness that runs around the bottom of the hinge on the right side of the trunk lid. You will have to remove the cover to get to it. The 06 was plagued with wire harness failure. You want to inspect the wiring very carefully for any sign of breakage of the individual wires. I'd check that first after you verify the fuses are all intact.

CLS550 2008 TRUNK AUTO OPEN/CLOSE PROBLEM

I had the same issue. As stated earlier there's an issue with wires breaking in the wiring harness that's attached to the bottom of drivers side trunk hinge. I checked mine and a brown wire was broken. It took me about 20 mins to find the problem and repair the wire. All works fine now. You may also notice the interior trunk light not working. In my case the "third brake light not working" message came on too.

In a few threads that I've read, most of the time it's the brown wire, sometimes it's multiple wires. You may have to remove some electrical tape to expose the broken wire. Usually it's near the end of the plastic tubing that covers the wiring harness.

Fixed!

It was the driver side brown wires near the end of the plastic tubing, I never would have figured it out without this thread. Thanks a million!

Big big thanks to all, i had the same problem and i found only the solution because of you guys. For my case (W218..CLS 350..2014) brown wire and all other wires are on the right side (behind the passager and not the driver)....i think it is easy to find where you have to go...Just go to the side where the fuses box is. THanks again

you may have to check the pump in your truck maybe there’s a crack somewhere if there is flex glue or crazy glue and corella glue can be used to seal cracks. I have a cls550 09 and my trunk slams down when I press the red button. I’m trying to fix that and can’t figure it out. Good luck!

I tried to do as you suggested, but no wires are visible! Everything is covered by paneling and I don't see a way to remove it. How did you access/see the wires to fix them?
Thanks.

I also had a broken wire (4 in total!), the things which weren't working correctly in my case:
-Boot handle
-Auto close button
-Lock button
-Boot light was blinking

All fixed with some extra pieces of speaker cable + a bit of soldering!
