Straight pipe or X pipe?

Hi fellas.

Recently bought a 2006 cls55 amg. The resonator was removed. I believe this is called ‘’resonator delete’’

My question is. What is best to do? X-pipe or straight pipe? I want something that sounds low tone like a low lion growl bu not toot loud, nothing too high pitch neither , etc.

What exaust set ups are recommended for this application? Any recommended brands that you guys could point me to?

Note: Catalyc converter will not be removed. I live in California. Emissions are strict.

After doing some research online I am removing secondary cats and resonator.

Wats the best piping for secondary cats? X-pipe or straight pipe?

same for resonator, straight pipe or x-pipe on the resonator?

Replce cats with X pipe for more exotic v8 sound or a H pipe which produces more standard american v8 muscle sound. The further forward the H or X pipe the better so if you removed cats then put it there..

There lowend torque gain from H pipe and more high end hp on x pipe so i went with x pipe coz already hard to get traction down low.

Put straight pipe instead of resonators.

When working on exhaust make sure they leave some room for exhaust to move as engine torques/twists under load. The engine twists towad the right of the car(passenger side USA).

so you are saying to replace resonators with straight pipes and secondary cats with x-pipes?

The car already came with the resonator removed with straight pipes. Now should I remove the secondary cats and install straight pipe or x pipe in there place?

The X pipe and H pipes work best the closer to the engine they are. This helps with reducing the exhaust drone. People who put them where the resonators are only did so coz they dont want to remove secondaries.

Yes it'll be fine with the 2.5. Its 2.75 stock, I think most people go either 2.5 or 3.0.

Good information, do either of you have headers or OE manifolds?
I am looking to do some exhaust work on my CLS 55 which is all stock currently.
Please post some sound clips when done..
Thanks in advance!

Will do the 3

i am also getting my mufflers deleted. Do I tell the shop to join both tip pipes to join the single straight pipe exhaust or just leave it cut out?

from my research I will start with resonator delete and secondary cat delete

get an x pipe closest to the primary cats and straight pipe resonator delete.

Skip the intake IMO, they have been proven to be a waste of money and in some cases even lose you power! Yeah longtubes will be nice! I think you should get a LSD rather than the intake..

I am around 500 whp.

why skip the intake ? I already ordered it.

I think I am putting the mufflers back on because I think it’s going to be insanely louder with the headers on

This guy was having issues with his collapsing from the vacuum the supercharger created above 5000rpm. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ml#post7540003 Keep in mind his wasn't a needwings it was FTP.

They've been proven to not add HP when people have tested them in the past and in some cases the performance intakes have caused reduced HP.. They do make your supercharger whine a lot more noticeable from what I can tell.

Maybe see if they will refund you or let you put it toward something else, like their killer chiller..

A LSD is Limited Slip Differential. A differential is what transfers the power from the drive shaft (coming out of the transmission) and splits it to the two rear wheels. Now the problem with CLS55 without performance package is they don't have a limited slip one, meaning that the power goes down the path of least resistance. Basically if a rear wheel loses grip and spins, all the power goes to that wheel, causing it to spin more and the other wheel to get no power. If you have a limited slip diff it makes it so the power is evenly split between the two wheels at all times (more or less).
