Brabus CLS
I love the Brabus look. I have orderd a CLS55 AMG, and can't wait, but this looks even better.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Well, I got my first lesson in speed 101! I learned how speed and business can clash with each other!
I visited the AMG factory in Affalterbach today inquiring about a Blower Kit for my E350 and was given a very interesting reason why Mercedes AMG doesn’t support blower kits for the E350. I was told by AMG that the 3.5 liter engine has performance parameters that are fairly close to that of the 4.3L V8 and the 5.0L V8. He said because there’s only a difference of 34hp between the 5.0L V8 and the 3.5L V6, any simple bolt-on power increase will place the performance parameters of the V6 above that of the V8. He said a $50,000 E350 Sedan with a $5000 bolt-on Blower would out-perform a $86,000 S500 with the 5.0L V8 and that wouldn’t be fair to the people spending $86000 for a S500 with the 5.0L V8. He said even though the S500 offers more in terms of luxury, the Germans wouldn’t go for that, and it would hurt sales of their top of the line cars.
He said companies such as Brabus, who supports their concept (Philosophy), will only offer simple upgrades of up to 15hp, like the B7 kit ($11,000) I have on my car. Any greater performance from the 3.5L requires a displacement increase to 4.0, which runs approximately $31,250 and requires the badge of Brabus 4.0 on the trunk lid of the car.
So my lesson of the day: If I require performance equal to or greater than that of their 5.0L V8, I will have to spend the equivalence of their upper luxury models cars. $50,000 for the car and an additional $31,250 for the performance upgrade for a total of $ 81,250 or spend $82,575 for an E55 AMG.
What it all means? You're comparing a CLK with an S-Class. You can get more speed out of the CLK but you'll have to spend the equivalent of the S-class or more. That's the Brabus way!
All the power claims are accurate, it comes right off their dynamometer. I spend some time at their production plane in Bottrop and was given a grand tour. I also watch them test my car after they modified it. The speed on the Dyno will be slighly greater than the speed on the road for obvious reasons. My car did 165.906 mph on the Dyno and 163mph on the Autobahn.

and how much snow was on the ground in Affalterbach and Bottrop?

There's not much snow in Germany this winter, at least not yet! Each winter is getting warmer with less snow. Today was 40 degrees F! When I first got to Germany in 1980 the entire Month of December and January was in the single digits and you would often see snow as late as May. So far I believe the coldest day we had was around 23 degrees F, and I expect to start playing Golf next Month.
