Curious about production orders

It seems to me that at least several of the readers of this forum have already placed production orders with scheduled delivery periods. I am interested in learning when you placed your order and when its delivery is scheduled.

I placed a deposit with my dealer for a CLS 55 as soon as I heard of the intent of Mercedes-Benz to produce this body style (which must be nearly 18 months ago). At that time, I was told that I had the first slot for a customer-specific order at my dealership, as no one else had made a deposit before my doing so.

Since last November, I have -- literally every week or two-- checked back with my dealer to find out whether I can confirm my order for production. Here it is mid-February and others are starting to get deliveries of their cars and still I am told by my dealer that they have not gotten any production slots for the CLS 55. Given that my dealer is one of the top two or three dealers in Northern California and that it has a showroom stocked with 55s and even two 65s, I am starting to wonder whether I am getting jerked around.

Can anyone give me some useful feedback?

Thanks!

Wbat was your agreement at regarding msrp?.......msrp? Or market value at time of delivery.

What it sounds like to me (especially you being in Cali.), is that the dealer has sold the first 1 or 2 allocations to other people.

something fast
who's your dealer? you should have someone call and ask for cls 55's to determine if they are selling them. If you gave them a deposit, that is rotten of them, but its nothing new. When the sl 55's came out a buddie told me they would push people back to get cars to sell on the open market.

I too was the first to order a CLS55 at my dealer. It was just about the same time you did. However, unlike your story I took delivery of my car yesterday. Your dealer has to be screwing with you. Check your contract. You may have legal grounds to go after them. Recently, a dealer lost a case when they tried to mark up an ordered car. Good luck.

Learn to love green

Jim, my everest green CLS55 will be here in a week and you can have it at MSRP since my wife made me snag that CLS500 launch edition for her. You are with the wrong dealer for sure, but I don't think the demand for this vehicle is that strong and if you shop around right now, I am betting you can find some available, although maybe not your first color choices.

I also have a designo edition E55 wagon coming soon, but you cannot have this one.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, that practice is very common among greety authorized dealers who prefer to make the extra money by selling their first cars for over MSRP. I doubt you will be able to find a car that has the right color and options for MSRP but if you do shop around, you might find a Pewter or Green CLS 55 AMG without a premium. At this point, the best thing you can do is get a lawyer, and sue them because what they have done to you is not right, and it's ilegal.

What's wrong with green?

Why will the only cars be green?

Because demand is very high on colors such as Black, Silver, or White. That is why those cars are selling for $5,000 to $10,000 over MSRP. In the other hand, not many people want their cars in Green, Pewter, etc. and that is why dealers don't mind selling them for MSRP because they know that's all they will get for those cars.

And by the way, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Green. I happen to think that the car looks good in green as well, but I would rather take a Black or White CLS 55 AMG. It's just a matter of personal taste, so if you like Green, go for it, and enjoy the ride.
