I bet you never used a super car before ( just like I was ). Forget about C32 and C55 , these are AMG engines for driving/racing close to supercar extreme, not for lazily long touring on highways with occasionally take-overs . Besides, the small fuel tank (52Litre) of C-class was never designed for 5.5 litre engine. 250miles eats a full tank! For C32, when the Kompressor is active, it eats as much fuel as the C55. ( I guess )
I live in dense city and C55 fuel kills me run about 240miles per tank. Our fuel price is 3 times more than USA.
For performance , comfort and reliability as well as fuel economy, get the new C350 with 270hp 4-Valve newly designed engine with 7G-Tronic transmission. Plenty of power and you definitely save the bucks and not lose that much of fun than the C32/55. If you want to spend the bucks , get the E350 with 270hp 4-Valve newly designed engine with 7G-Tronic transmission. That would be a truly highway car good for you and your family.
The E350 is not as fast as C350 but remember W203 is fading out quick; avoid to get top model like C55 now unless you really want to get on your mood now.
My 1 cent

Getting back to the OP's topic-MPG for C32 and C55,these cars are so similar in size and engine output that your mileage is mostly a function of how much right foot fun you have. While they're not made with high fuel mileage as a top priority, you can get decent fuel mileage if you just drive sanely.
I drove home to from the midwest last summer (that's a 900 mile day followed by a 1,100 miler...does that qualify as "lazily long touring on highways with occasionally take-overs"?).My trip average was 24 mpg.

Thank you for reminding me and all of us what is off the topic
However, I disagree my repsonse was off the topic.
You may not agree and impressed about what I pointed out;
however, if you read the question carefully, someone is in the process
of a buying decision. And, I did not think fuel cost is someone's final
item to decide buying a C32 or a C55. Added opinions could be
helpful too.
Besides, It is not intended to be a debat; neither you were able to point out the difference of C55's fuel consumption vs C32, which was what the original question is asking.
Thank you.

16.7mpg city+highway average.
I can get 21mpg on the highway tho usually. it's the city driving that sucked around 10-11mpg, and I mostly run around where I go to school.

2002 C32 No engine mods except filters 15 - 17 City, 18 - 21 hwy (spirited driving) up to 22.5 for longer distances at 70mph! 18,000 total miles
2005 C55 No engine mods 14 - 15.5 City, 18.5 - 22 hwy
Best highway to date 23mpg avearge over 250 miles at 65-70 MPH 6,400 total mile to date. The C55 mileage is improving over time, orignal city mileage was 12 - 13 no more than 17 for highway. I have also noticed a slight increase up to 1 mpg keeping the tranny in Comfort mode

I've gotten up to 28 US MPG and average 22/23 US mpg. Freeway driving I've gotten 345 miles. In the city (Los Angeles) I get about 250 miles.
I say US MPG because America loves to be different, and EU countries that use Miles instead of KM use Imperial MPG (which is why people mistakenly assume 60+mpg cars in Europe are completely different and exclusive and are not available here)

Wow old tread. We took our first long distance trip in our C32. We went from Jacksonville Fl. to Houstin Tx. and back. The car performed perfectly and got 22.6 mpg at an average of 76mph
