Got Camber?

The C32 will never see its full potential with this lack of negative camber.

This is the left front tire. No burn outs here. Just hard driving at the limit. Doesn't matter what tire I run. This has happened to every set I own, although this set wins the prize! 225's on a 8.5" with Carlsson RS's. Max camber with correction bolts is .96 - 1.04. This car needs a minimum of 3 degrees to be competitive and take advantage of a proper contact patch.

I could see it on a rear, on the inside of the rim, and you actually drove with the threads out like that???

It's called driving on a road course with less than 4 degrees of front negative camber. My Toyo's almost look like that and I am at -2.3 degrees. Nothing wrong with suspension, just poor vehicle design.

"I could see it on a rear, on the inside of the rim"... What picture are you looking at?? All I see is the outside tread block worn through. What are you refering to? Prior to last driving session, full coverage and tread with about 3/32" left. After 30 minutes, this is what walked off the asphalt. No one should ever attempt to drive on a tire like this. I posted a previous picture of the T1-S worn through, but nothing like this. The Dunlops obviously don't like camber challenged cars or nose heavy cars, and the channel seperating the outside tread blocks and the inside area don't do well in this situation.

On another note, the SLK350 was more fun to drive on the track and was within a few seconds of the C32 on Continentials. The SLK55 must be fun It is interesting to note that the strut towers in the new SLK have a different strut mount than the W203 sedans. The SLK now uses a more traditional three bolt design to secure the upper bearing to the top hat. Looks like this is the answer to the camber plate design if the W203 towers are the same design, strength and come out of the same mold.

I haven't seen the bay of the new SLK yet. I bet that's a blast to drive. On the camber plates we had discussed a single spherical bearing... I had something like this in mind...



This is an e36 setup from GC. This would be nice, no cutting?

We really do drive this car hard. Here is a picture of a new set of T1-S's shaved to 4/32". After 90 minutes, this is what happened. If we were on a fast course generating excessive heat for extended periods, this rubber would have come off these as well. I stopped driving on this tire after this. I inspect each tire after each session for wear. Just for fun, here is what a silver bbk with black hats looks like after a hard days work...

Turner's plates are very good. I happen to run TCKline's at the moment and have used GC's in the past. They all work, some with a little more adjustment than others. I was able to get a reading of neg 5.2 when I set the TCK's to full neg after installation. I run 3.25 neg now with even tire wear on the bmw. GC's are a little thicker and more triangular which I don't feel spreads the load as well unless you use reinforcement places under the bell housing. Turner offers two styles for stock vs coilover installation which I think has to do with ride height issues. The key here with the pictured plates is whether or not the three holes will line up with the flat square sections of the bell tower for most support. The camber adjustment sliders must be orientated correctly or camber and caster will change at the same time if the angle is off. Are you going to use these as the prototype slipper? We will have to cut the tower because the hole for the single wing nut design is not big enough to angle the strut shaft inward enough to produce the desired negative camber needed.

Why aren't you running R compounds? You're tearing up those tires but I wouldn't necessarily expect them to hold up to the abuse??? Did you run a good lap or two before driving these tires hard? If they were properly warmed up, this shouldn't really have happened??

I meant no cutting for people ok with only 2.5 - 3 degrees. I've read that the e36 guys are cutting to get the full benefit too.

We haven't discussed which to use as a prototype. Jeff is going to use my specs and a stock assemble Lynn and I sent him to develop the prototype. I had thought about using the CGs as the prototype, but I've read that the TCK's are prefered amongst the bmw racers.

Edit- I want to move to a 2.5 or 60mm spring, no plans for stock spring style.
Edit- Your brakes, that's hysterical. After 40 minutes on the track you could feel the heat off of mine from 5+ feet away. StopTech's BBK is coming as soon as I can sneak it under the fiance's radar

Very little R-Compounds in my size. The Dunlop are almost an R compound and they went away twice as fast. We heat cycle the tires and warm them up properly. The C32 has way more weight in the front than the coupe, with over 1,000 lbs at the driver's front with the car corner balanced and over 3,800lbs total with driver. Huge weight transfer under severe braking even with the rear lowered. The road courses this happened at are very hard on tires. Note to self; sell the 18's and the 355 bbk, buy some Fikse Profil 10's in 17" and run the 332 bbk in front and then run the Toyo RA-1's in 235 45 and 255 40

I had run the 235/40/17s prior. The only thing keeping me from going to 255s out back is the ability to rotate. The RA-1s are a nice tire. There are stickier tires out there for cheaper, but my last set served duty for almost a full autocross season, then were my summer tires the next year. They really held up for me.

I am waiting on StopTech to get back to me on the SSR Comps clearing the 332 caliper. I am sure my flik Lex will, but they're cheap as heck and I don't expect them to hold up long
