Trade....$$

How much $$ would be a reasonable offer by an MB dealer for my '03 C32 with 28,500 miles (CD, Nav, COMAND, headlamp washers, ski sack, etc...see signature)?

Before I go to the dealer I need to have an idea of what is reasonable before start the barganing process.

Thanks for the help!

Check Edmunds and KBB and take an average. That will get you in the vicinity.

To be honest with you... if the dealer offers you trade-in value, it's actually a good deal when it comes to a trade. Usually car dealers offer 3-4k back of wholesale book. And, wholesale book value (what they can by if for at the auction) is usually 2k less than trade-in value.

Your best bet is to sell it privately. Good luck.

Without any negotiation (b/c of lack of time) they offered me $32,000. I think this is WAY too low!! In my mind I was thinking $35,500-36,000 will be a value to consider.

What do you guys think?

I looked in NADA guidelines and quoted a trade-in value of $35,600 and with options up to $37,475. Edmunds quoted $34,058 and Kelly Blue Book $32,175.

Why so different? (obviously, the dealer quoted the KBB #'s that as you can tell are the lowest)

Private party sale listed are $36,275 and $42,450!

Like I said, car dealers offer 3-4k back of book. You'll probably be able to get them up another 1k. Here's the thing... they can buy your car at the highline auction for 30-33k. Dealers do not use KBB or Nada, they use wholesale values as their sole criteria to base value on a trade-in. Try putting your car on eBay... I sold my g35 on eBay for a bit under private party resale.

If you don't have the time to wait to sell it privately and you want to maximize your trade-in value, you should consider doing this. Strike a deal/negotiate the best deal possible on the car you want independent of a trade-in. Tell them you're just going to sell your car privately or keep it. Then when you feel comfortable with the price of the new car and they know you're a serious buyer, tell them you've changed your mind and want to trade-in your car. They'll of course default back to what they originally offered you (maybe even less if your negotiated a killer deal on the new car)and that's when you call their bluff. Tell them it will take 36k (a little bit higher than what you want to get) to make the deal work. They'll then try to meet your in the middle 34k and that's when you say, nope. 36k or nothing, they'll probably tell you they can't move. That's when you leave... they will call you back in a couple hours or the next day and tell you to come back in, they can probaby wiggle a bit. My guess is they'll come up to 35k or something close...That's your number! Hope this helps. Good luck.

just a thought but you might want to try CARMAX. i know they normally will give you more than the other dealerships and it's no haggle. if you don't have time to sell it privately, swing by and have them give you a quote for your car. it won't hurt and takes about 30 min. hope this helps
