02' c32 differential question

I'm working on a 2002 C32 AMG, bad stock differential. I've pulled the old differential out of the car. It looks like I have the push in axel common with the 2002 model year. I've attached a picture, can anyone verify this?

Has anyone installed the Quaife differential on a similar setup? Mercedes wants $2300 for the stock dif., the same one that only lasted 90K on this car. I'd rather do the Quaife for $1300. Is this a simple swap?

Information from anyone with experience on an 02' C32 differential install/ swap would be appreciated.

The answer depends on what is wrong with your current diff. Quaife LSD only replaces some of the parts in your MB diff. It is not an entire diff with housing and things. You may still need a diff from MB, Quaife diff (if that's what you want) and most possibly new 2003+ style axles to go with that Quaife LSD.

to improve traction for the most part. it'll give power to both of my wheels instead of off and on on each one. apparently it's a dramatic difference and the prices on them have dropped alot.

When you finally get it done, please update this thread. I'm curious to know how the difference feels to you.

One of my best mods ever. No problems at all. No more fishtailing all over the place or having engine cut-off and getting that flashing triangle. UNLESS I really mashed it.

I wouldn't mind one either. I just need to find information on setting up the diff to determine if I'll do it myself or not.

for 3 of us? i don't think that'd happen. the guy that's gonna install mine (ASPvlad i think his name on here is) said he'll give me a sweet deal on one if i haven't bought one yet, but i gotta give him a call monday since he's out of town right now. eurocharged has them on their website for $950 and that's not a bad deal to me so anything less is nice. i wonder what install is gonna cost. what i'm hearing guys is that there is a VERY dramatic difference with this. and to kjb55, let me know if that 355 is for sale

I might be interested in a group buy, preferably including installation.

Ok, maybe a bit of a stretch at 3! But maybe there are some lurkers out there. $950 is a good price - if you get it cheaper, let us know.

As for the F355, it's a 15k mile, 9.5/10 red over tan berlinetta that's a dream come true, so not for sale. Although it is due for a major, and that cost puts MB maintenance in the bargain category.

In the earlier pages of this, someone mentioned that quaife wanted 30 people for a group buy. These things are so cheap now,i wouldn't even worry about it.

I've had one installed for the last three years or so, no problems and it dramatically improves handling. I certainly increase my exit speed out of corners.

had a quaife on my c55 for about 4 months now and its brilliant, really gets the power down. The change in handling is noticable with more power understeer and neutral/mild oversteer when you back off. It means you just have to change the way you approach corners, you tag the apex and then boot it out of the corner. I like that.
I've had it up to 225kph and the quaife was quiet and nothing exploded (which was nice).
cost me $1,300 + $745 install but that's in oz, you'll get it much cheaper in the US im sure.
not sure why mb didnt do a lsd at factory.

cool, that's awesome. So then they don't affect top speed?

The Quaife is just an insert that replaces the spider gears with helical gears, the final drive ratio is unchanged.

. . . well I ran out of road so I cant vouch for top speed, but its the same RPM in the same gears for the same speeds as with the MB diff, so there's no reason to think there'd be a reduction.

I see Eurocharged do a quaife diff for $950 + install.
