What is unit/pump behind passenger side headlight?
Just curious, what is the pump or unit in the engine bay behind the passenger side headlight? It sits in the area surrounded by the coolant reservoir, passenger headlight, and intake inlet tube.
The unit is fairly large. It's black with an electrical plug and one fairly thick hose.

This is the intercooler recirculation pump. It recirculates water from the header tank through to the heat exchange unit (located in the valley cover beside the supercharger)and the intercooler (mounted in front of the radiator).
As all Forced Induction sytems generate unwanted heat and the potential to lower the cylinder charge (Volumetric Efficiency), an intercooler is imperative to overcome this adverse effect. In the case of our vehicles the transfer is performed by Air to Liquid.
Unfortunately the induction cooling system on our vehicles is not as efficient as say a Laminova heat exhchange unit (as used by Kleemann). Once "Heat Soak" occurs you will experience differing (lower) performance levels of our vehicles.

To access the intercooler pump, don't I have to get into the passenger wheel wheel lining. Its the smaller pump kinda behind the passenger side foglight right?
I was just curious what that pump was for at the top there behind the passenger headlight. The noticed the hose came off a little and I was just wondering what ran through those hoses because there are no clamps on those hoses. They are just fitted on. Looks like I would just be able to pull and the hoses would just come off.

What you are reffering to is a "smog" or secondary air injection pump. It's main function is to help with start up emissions. Typically it will come-on on a cold start for about 15-20 seconds and than shut-off.

On my vehicle (Australian) the Intercooler pump is mounted forward of the header tank (behind the drivers side headlight) and the large smog pump is located under the drivers side intake snorkel. There must be a difference in ancillary location between left and right hand drive vehicles?
