New Lexus IS350-You guys see the performance figures for that baby?

Was just flipping through the latest car mags at the store, and saw a sports sedan shootout including the new IS350 w/ 306 HP (stock). Thing ran a 5.1 second 0-60, and a 13.7 sec. quarter @ 104. Holy krap. Those times are right there with a stock C32/55 or E46. The Toyota reliability and probable superior gas mileage are icing on the cake, not to mention the $20K in your pocket. Granted, the Germans have more road presence, but that IS350 looks to be a pretty killer package for the money.

0-60 is listed at 5.1 but in edmunds.com review they couldn't get any faster then 5.6 ... i considered the new is350 before getting the c32 but the base price is around $52k CDN and over $60K CDN fully optioned ... i don't think much people would pay that much for a entry level lexus

Keep in mind this car is automatic only.

I would be highly interested if they had a manual available...

read this months MT magazine

5.5 to 60

and 14.0 to 1/4 mile.

don't believe one test, please read Automobile mag, CarandDriver, RoadandTrack, Motorweek, Autoweek, before jumping into a conclusion.

If you pull up a C32 test by motortrend, the car pulled a 4.78 to 60 and 13.2 to the 1/4. Everywhere else the car is about 4.9 to 5.1 and 13.4 to 13.6.

Stock C32 should be .5 second faster to 60 and 1/4 mile
Stock C55 should be .7 seconds faster to 60 and 1/4.

C32 with Evo 1 package, no resonator and greenfilters... no worries.

***however, IF TRD quickly develops a decent blower set up as they have for other models... LOOK OUT! This blower will be covered by factory warranty and it will probably give you a 75hp increase and 70lb torque. Currently they have these blowers for camry, solara, Tundra, Tacoma, Celica, ect.

I will considered it once the S/c is availalble.

Also keep in mind that Lexus will launch a V8 with this car. That should be a decent performer.

Well, fully loaded a C320 2005 (I think that's it...) is around 50,000$ MSRP, that's with all the options checked from http://autos.yahoo.com .

For the IS350, that 60,000$ in USD is around 52K$.
Of course, I'm basing the prices of MSRP in the case of Mercedes, and what you said price wise for the IS350.

Now I'm kicking myself though, because I *should have* compared it to the C320 Sport Sedan.

I'm sure however someone who is more enlightened on the prices of the W203 can shed some more light, I just wanted to put it into a better perspective, that an entry level Lexus, is roughly the same price of an entry level Mercedes.

nothing wrong with having an automatic. Im surprised to hear a statement from an AMG owner.

I would definitely cosider the IS if I didnt have the C32. I have a 98 LX470 with 204K miles on it, and will replace it with another when/if it ever quits. Reliability is amazing on the Lexus. Never had a major malfunction

lexus is really hitting it right now, just wait until the new LS comes out w/the hybrid engine... the IS looks to be a strong contender vs mercedes, audi, bmw, infiniti etc but this market is huge, and i dont doubt its success for an instant

Mainly because this is a mildly powerful V6 and their automatic trans is nothing like an AMG tuned trans.

If i'm going to buy a car with 306hp and even less torque, I'm going to want a 6-speed to get all the power I can out of it. Having 376lbs of torque and an AMG tuned trans is a major difference.

yeah but considering this is a japanese car, it'd cost less money to tune.
Throw a couple of grand for engine tuning and you'd be way up there.

Do you think it has a name?
I don't care much for who makes the song or whatever, I'm more of a case by case song guy

sorry ricky...

on another note.. i jsut got done checking out the new IS and performance looks ok but to me the car just looks like any other ordinary japanese car tahts coming out lately with a little bit of bmw (new 5 and 3) biting... i don't think lexus did a good job on keepin the design original.. o well it looks like the new c class and s class are on the same path.. guess we just gotta accept them for what they are...

Never underestimate toyotas / lexus.... who knows they have JDM engine under the hood... met an IS300.... looked stock except the exhaust.... sound deep not cheap.... Raced w/ my E55 from 80-120+, he couldn't leave me and I couldn't pass him pretty strong for 6-cyl engine. Not sure what's underneath... but the one in video seems faster... I think I could get blown easily.... look how easy he killed a Z06.

Anyway, where is Galveston? How come I've never had fun like that.... so many racers in one day.

You're so d@mn lucky..... I rarely meet w/ someone who wants to race..... mainly Mustang GTs who don't know AMGs..... but I always love their surprised face when seeing an old E beat him Yet, among numerous short race, only two asked me questions:

Race #1:
Other racer: Nice run.... what's under the hood?
Me: Only 5.5L NA
Other racer: Stock?
Me: Yes... 100% stock
Other racer: No way.... you have two people and could still beat me?
Me: Never heard of AMG? You gotta mod your car or at least get a Cobra.

Race #2:
Other racer (while giving me a thumbs up): What the hell? Use shot?
Me: No... my car's completely stock and heavy
Other racer: Wanna have another try?
Me: Sure... let's go
---- And he lost again ----
Other racer: Do you have a blower?
Me: Nope... 100% stock
Other racer (scratching head): Something's wrong w/ my car...
Me: may be.... get a blower... and you have a better chance

Few races... but some are memorable

I was told actually the IS350 is confirmed to have a 6 speed tranny. They just didn't offer it for the lauch vehicles. But eventually, they will have it.

I had the honor to drive a IS350 yesturday, my local lexus dealer had one that was on display for yesturday only (they move this car to all the dealers before it was actually for sale). I knew someone there and they let me go for a drive with them. Qucik car, doesn't feel like my C55, but its quick. The interior is a bit weird and almost cheap to me. As good as it is, i still hate japenese cars.
