Exhausts
Thanks
if you want to spend $1000+ on exhaust system to get the right sound, you won't see any much difference than the stock amg set up.
from what I read, is more about the sound than performance for after market products.
Like the others said, there is definitely a huge change in sound. IMO, the sound is incredible. You can hear my Kleemann exhaust here

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
anyway, for c32, the only exhausts i found for c32-specific application were supersprint (not available at the time i purchased exhaust) and eisenmann. i chose the eisenmann race. i believe carlsson makes one for c32 specific too; i saw it once in one of their catalogs. for the money, it is probably better to remove the rear resonator, and if you want more agressive, just remove the secondary rear cats and keep the stock amg muffler. i wanted different tips and agressive tone so i bought eisenmann race, which is definitely agressive and great at WOT, but would second guess myself if it is worth the money if i had to do it over again. v6 with agressive exhaust won't sound like a v8 tho.....too bad. but c32 w/ eisenmann race has nice distinctive tone and really screams at redline. power change is negligible in my case.
The OEM log-type manifold HAS to be restrictive, and without any individual primaries, I'm sure that there's no exhaust scavenging what-so-ever. I believe that any of the 5.5 motors would benefit from a good header swap about as much as any car possibly can benefit from one. While I take this with a grain of salt, Kleeman claim a 7-10% hp increase with their headers (Which I understand eliminates the primary cat), which would be between 25-35 hp. Even if it were only a 5% increase, that would still be an increase of 18 hp. Unfortunately though, I understand that their headers cost a fortune. Renntech charges $5000 for their headers which is beyond insane imho. It's a shame as hp gains from a more efficient exhaust is a win-win situation. More power without a fuel economy penalty, better sound, and possibly a cooler running engine. I wish someone would start making reasonably priced mods for these cars...

I don't know how similar our exhaust systems are, but mine looks pretty effiicient from the cats back. Large diameter (2.5"-3"s??) with few bends and a relatively large volume muffler, so I wouldn't expect much in the way of power gains if any from replacing the exhaust from the cars and rearward. The only reason I'd like to swap out mine id to personalise my car more and to enhance the V8 burble...
Having said that though, I still believe that there are gains to be found from a proper set of headers. The stock CLK55 exhaust manifold (Note that I say "exhaust manifold" as they are not headers) is the same as the manifold on the CLK500, which is a "log type" manifold, and are about as restrictive as a manifold can be. I'm sure that everyone's familiar with thestock manifold but here's a couple pics for those who aren't...

p.s.) Note that that's a 210 E55 motor, but the exhaust manifolds are identical
yes you are right i but the evosport and supersprint headers are the same for c320 and c32! you might think they would have built the c32's peice to flow a bit more....(if indeed it's compromised to fit both models).

I'm ok with loud sound during full throttle but I traded a modified WRX for a quieter C55 so I really don't want to go back to a noisy car.
Just to the record, I have to replace my rear exhaust sections because I was rear ended and the exhaust pipes are bent.
Kleemann is closed for the weekend. Can anyone give me an idea of the $$$ for the aftermarket exhausts?
IMO, I love it.
