Extended warranty needed for an '02 C32....

I talked to the local Mercedes dealer and they want $2800-$3000 for a 5yr/100k mile aftermarket warranty. That sounds awfully high to me, but what do I know. The car has 12,xxx miles on it and the factory warranty ran out this month. The guy I'm buying from is the second owner and did not get the factory extended warranty.

Does anyone out there know of a GOOD warranty that will cover the important stuff like electronics, drive train, etc. for a reasonable amount???? The thought of having to shell out thousands of $$$ for a tranny a year from now scares me!!!!

I agree.. get the extended warranty it will be worth it.. I have the Starmark til 100k.. I'm at 88k now on my 02 C32.. just got my car back today with more than a couple of grand worth of work all covered under the extended warranty.(WHEW) Front swaybar bushings, bearings, thrust arms, engine mounts, tranny seal leak.. Only thing I had to pay for was having a couple of small dings removed. Without my warranty I would have had to pay $150 just to have them look at the car. This is the third time in 3 months I have had my car at the dealer. I just bought the car a couple of thousand miles ago and I am determined to make sure everything is in perfect condition and that I take full advantage of the warranty.

You guys are making me think twice about buying this car!!! I know that it only has 12,xxx miles on it, but after everything I've read over the last week, I'm thinking that another BMW might be the better choice???

Actually I'm pretty sych'd about getting it. I saw a silver C320 tonight on the way home and I was looking at it as if it were mine and what the mods would look like. Please tell me that I'm doing the right thing!!!

Anyone have an aftermarket warranty that they are happy with?? If so, what company?? I've heard that there are a bunch out there that make promises but always seem to find loop holes.

Had an 01 330.. it was in the shop every couple of months usually for electrical stuff.. There seemed to be plenty of problems with my BMW too.. So far, even though there have been a few issues, I love my car.. I bought my car with 85k miles and the previous owner put 40k miles on it last year.. there were bound to be problems and the only reason I took the chance was because of the Starmark warranty and the selling price of the car..

With only 12k miles, I don't think you will need to worry about a tranny. Its the little electrical issues that can add up.. Usually a person would have driven more than 12k miles and most of the problems would have been corrected by now..

Good luck..

As long as you get the warranty to 100K you will be allright. I love the cars just look at my sig I have an 06 too. I have just resigned myself to the expense and have learned never to keep an out of warranty Mercedes.

You should be paying well under $30k for this used C32 and the extended warranty is just part of the purchase equation. I would not buy the car without an extended warranty no matter how few miles are on it. It just takes one small issue to become a big issue, like did this car receive one oil change in 4 years with only 12k on the clock? Best of luck!

Well under $30k with 12k miles? Are you serious? Man I would jump at that deal and own two c32's.. I would estimate that a c32 with 12k miles would be more in the 35K+ range and wouldn't be suprised to see a 40k asking price..

Yes, you can get an after market warranty, probably to 100k miles. You might have to get the warranty thru another company though..

Is it worth a couple of hundred $$$ more to get the one that the Mercedes dealer is offering or do you still look at the fine print and go with the one that covers the most??? A buddy of mine just bought an '02 BMW M5 and the warranty that the BMW dealer offered did not cover NAV/stereo which could be huge if it went out. He found an aftermarket warranty that covered the NAV for the same or less than the one BMW offered.

I've just heard a bunch of horror stories about aftermarket warranties and want to make sure that I spend my money wisely. On of the guys on a Porsche board bought on only to have the company go under right before his first claim!!!!

So can anyone recommend a 3rd party warranty company that covers AMG in California?
I've asked before but there's usually a deafening silence.

I would go with the Starmark warranty if its available. It covers the NAV and the stereo. It has covered every problem I have had so far.

Expat.. I have seen a few warranty companies listed in this forum.. can't remember the names off the top of my head.. If you search long enough you will probably find the names..

I just returned my leased 2002 C32 last month to the dealer with 23K miles and it had a buyout of $28,000. It was pristine and I got every cent of my deposit back. I guarantee you that had I bought it all the people who said "I'll buy it for $35K" would have magically disappeared. When the car is off warranty the value drops like a brick and I wouldn't have even bought my own car(which I did not) without some kind of extended warranty.

sent you a pm about it,
but you never got back to me on it.

i wanted you to look into www.corpmsc.com
they were willing to do CA cars and the price was reasonable.
but i was't sure if they were on the up and up.
they were underwritten by mercury insurance and it was a 3 year 100k total for 2400 or so.
thats the best i got, but i have yet to pull the trigger, my starmark ends in june.

I hear ya.. It's a major pain in the *** to sell a used car these days too.. Mine has 88k miles still under the 100k warranty.. Got it for 27k.. I may have paid too much, but it's fully loaded except for parktronic and had everything I wanted, especially the color and of course the warranty..

Man.. how do you guys only drive like 5k miles a year?? I drive that in about 3-4 months..

I'm pretty sure that the guys that only drive 5k a yr have other cars or live really close to the office. I put at least 20k/yr on my daily driver!!!

Well I have a Ducati that I use to commute in the summer.. (FYI, I am trying to sell and have it listed in the classifieds) but I would probably still put an many miles.. I am always looking for a reason to go for a drive!!

I was thinking about keeping my last car (BMW 330i) as a commuter, but I realized that after a month I never drove it.. so I dumped it..

I use Metra to work and drive a mile to the station. In the summer I use my motorcycle a lot. I think my next ride is a Cayman S, but you didn't hear that.
