pump failure?

So it finally happened ... my car decided to take a vacation, German labor style by just refusing to start this morning. My dealer called me and said, "your pump failed".

Now I've read all sort of pump failures in this forum, but would it actually prevent a car from starting? Could the intermittent tranmission jerks actually be related in any way?

The SA didn't say. I just hope it wasn't some catastrophic failure

My car has been at the dealership for the last week. I had the same problem, where the engine would turn over but would not start up. They think it is the fuel pump and had to "order one in from Germany." I guess in our vehicles it is all one piece with the gas tank, so the whole thing has to be replaced.

Fuel pump is correct. My SA also ordered one from Germany earlier, but 15 minutes later he called back telling me my car is ready. Pixie dust?

My best guess is since the fuel pumps and sensors are shared across all W203s, the technicians simply replaced them with the ones they have on hand. Guess the ones coming in will just wait for another lucky customer .

That's too bad because I had an E350 4matic as a loaner, perfect for the wet conditions.
