So Jay55 and I went out for another night at the 1/8th mile drag races tonight. I went out with my newly acquired drag radials and he ran with the stock Conti's again. The first 8-10 runs we did horrible.

Thanks again to Bill Wu (qualcomm65) as he was kind enough to ride along with me to offer some tips as to how to burn out and put my car in dyno mode. Wow...what a difference. Immediate 0.500 time improvement! I passed along the tips to Jay and he went out and ran his best time of the night. Too bad more MBworld members couldn't join us. It was fun. Got a total of 16 runs and I believe Jay ran 18 times.

Anyway on with the good stuff. Jay will have videos up shortly.

Don't laugh. My car looks funny. Time slips and pics:

My best of the night:

Reaction: 0.648
60 Ft: 2.017
ET: 8.777
MPH: 80.79

Yeah there's one next week but not the 21st. Plus I'm going to the Padres game vs the Mets that week so no can do.

Did you really put the car into Dyno mode? This limits the traction to one rear wheel. Or did you just switch off ESP from the console.

Yes the car was put into dyno mode. The one wheel traction thing is probably due to the lack of an LSD. One wheel traction or not I was able to run my best times of the night. I clicked off (3) 8.7's in a row after not being able to break out of the 9's for most of the night.

I had ESP off most of the night but it would still intervene when I got a little sideways burning out. That compromised my burnout as it left water on the drag radials.

The drag races look like a lot of fun. If I lived closer to San Diego, I would definitely go.
I need to learn how to properly launch my car.

Good job to all those who represented the AMG

LOL yeah they do look funny but if it reduced my time by 0.500 then I'll rock them.

?

I don't remember the exact sequence but do a search for DYNO MODE and I'm sure you'll find a million topics about it. Yes, I do recommend turning it off because the ESP will intervene even though you have it turned off by hitting the button. Just remember you lose ABS as well so don't do anything dumb at the track.

As an example of why you want the car in dyno mode: I tried launching the car by brake boosting but the ESP would completely cut power when it spun even the slightest bit. Burnouts were a pain as well with the car not in dyno mode. If the car got a little sideways ESP would shut down the car as well. That pissed me off because it left water on the tires.
