Hey 1Fast:

Run this question through your techie mind:

If the pump is not functioning, why am I still losing fluid from the washer reservoir? Presumably, if my problem was the intercooler core, the fluid level would not go down without the pump operating??

i filled the resevior full and in about 3 weeks it was empty. i filled it full about 2 times already. first i thought it was head gasket, but i don't have white smoke or anything and my engine temp stays the same. i don't see it leaking anywhere. i'm loosing alot of coolant but the car runs prefectly normal. i even drive it hard too, raced couple of people. gonna take it to dealer this week, only thing that sucks is that my warrenty is expired.

well, there are a couple of possibilities...

but let me ask a couple of follow-up questions:

1. are you actually losing fluid on the ground?

2. have you noticed any difference in the performance of your car? (i am thinking slight differences here, not anything major)

sounds like your intercooler is leaking....that stealership bill is going to hurt! i hope you have another car to drive while it is in the shop, according to Vadim, there are no intercooler replacements in the USA right now, so it will probably be there a while...

do you know if the intercooler material is Aluminum? to see it you have to take the supercharger off? if you guys are running windshild washer fluid on it and its should be running coolant what is the protection on the core?

I'm asking cuz I'm doing the Evo Sport ODPS but I'm thinking of not using the water bottle if it will corrode the core.

I am not really driving it now, as I am waiting for the Lightning pump ($89.00 shipped on ebay!)

Should have the pump this week and install it this weekend, and then will be able to better assess my problem. Will report then.

the intercooler is aluminum and you do have to take the supercharger off to get to it...but you bring up a good point here, most winshield washer fluid contains methanol, which is highly corrosive! this may be why so many intercoolers have started to leak, may not....i wonder how many of the ones that have started to leak have the Evosport setup?

Trekman you have hit the nail on the head! That is why I installed the Alfa Romeo bladder washer kit as an entirely seperate circuit to the IC reservoir (Ex- washer reservoir) which now contains concentrated coolant and the bladder has windscreen washer fluid in it.

The Bladder doesn't look that nice when you lift the bonnet but who cares, it beats ruining/corroding the IC heat exchanger!

An interesting read. Could you please elaborate? Wouldn't using distilled water in the reservior be substantially similar without adding the additional bladder?

I wonder if Evosport has any comment on the issue of whether the wiper fluid is corrosive to the intercooler core?

Majority of leaks that I was contacted on were on stock or other tuners non-ODPS cars.

In my C32 I have allways used water with Red Line WaterWetter.

Mine started leaking at 89,000 miles. Most others were in 40,000 to 70,000 miles range.

There are also two E55s with leaky cores.

AMGSTYLE - That really sucks! Sorry to hear about this!

I notice that you have the machined provision for the Engineers Plate on your S/Charger yet you have an 02 model. Has there been previous history of repairs/replacement to your S/Charger and if so could this lead to a possible cause of your IC failure and retribution to the repairer which could entitle you to extended warranty????

Speculation? yes, but no harm in trying!!

Joe

I removed my manifolds recently to install phenolic spacers fronm Evosport and I am glad to report that I did not witness coolant residue (I am not losing coolant either).

I really feel for AMGSTYLE, I would have died if I had seen what he just has!

amgstyle: Sorry to see the pixs.

Over the last several years I have over ten pictures similar to yours.

At this time the only fix is to replace it with a new one from MB. I have tried to fix mine several times by using "leak stop"and even epoxing the edges where the core meets the housing.

No sucess.

To make a new design is just too expensive, even doing ten at the time.

Does anyone know: are the replacement intercoolers from MB a new and/or better design than the original? Or will this be a recurring problem?

Vadim,

Isn't there one off a supercharged Pontiac or something that will work? There has to be a solution other than the "MBZ bendover"
