i just dropped one of my rims at a shop monday to get it refinish. picking it up on friday. they say that the amg wheel is a chrome silver colour and that colour paint is very expensive. they usually charge $125 CDN to refinish a wheel but they are charging me $240 CDN for the amg wheel i'll let you know on friday if the colour match or not.

yea they will never all look the same unless you do all four.
also, the brake dust is harder to clean off.

Ive been told today that AMG will not release the colour code for there wheels and that they use a special dye in there colour, furthermore they are laser finished.

I just went ahead and ordered another wheel from Mercedes and thought that since i hadn't got a spare ide use the refurbed one.

1 FRONT WHEEL style IV=== $659.00

I hope your colour match was better than mine, post a pic if you can please as ide like to compare them.

Thanks

Here's a comparison between a refinished AMG wheel and one that isn't. Notice any difference? Which is which?

Yep, the left one is the refinished one. This was done by a local MB wheel refinish specialist (outside contractor). After I saw the refinish wheel and compared it to my other ones, the color didn't match nor the texture. It was a faded white color that was similar to those regular "silver alloys" and with a rougher surface. It didn't have the nice shiny silver metallic look like the originals. I complained about it and the dude that did the job told me it was the best that he or anyone in the business can do. He said he used the exact same paint and color that MB uses on their wheels. He even showed me several sets that he had refinished, and yep, they're all the same color and surface texture. I wasn't too happy because you can tell it didn't match the other ones, but if that's the best he can do, he won't be seeing any more of my wheels.

None of them will be able to match the oem finish on the AMG wheels as i stated earlier. To be honest it doesnt really matter who does the spraying the end result will never be 100% due to the method that AMG uses,it simply cant be reproduced thats why i had no option but to buy another wheel and keep the re sprayed one as a spare as i couldnt live with that kind of a difference.

are you serious!? when i drop the wheels off at the shop i ask them many times and they assured me that they will match. if only your made this thread 2 days earlier then i wouldn't have dropped of my wheels to get them refinished i hope they match better then the ones in the pic diamondblack05 posted. if they don't match can i refuse to pay since they assured me that it will match exactly?

In one of those posts he says that he was told that they use brilliant silver with a touch of white, well i was told here in the uk that they use sterling silver, which makes me think that either of them really do know, but i could be wrong.

Either way let me know how you get on bud.

Before I took the plunge with my local MB doing the refinish, I talked to some SA from www.wheelcollision.com and www.fixrim.com about it too. Even both of them said it's not 100% perfect match due to the different process that AMG used to coat their wheels. And yes, the color code is Sterling Silver and not Brilliant Silver with a touch of white. The dude that did my wheel is contracted to all the major car dealerships in the local area and this includes all the major brands: MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Acura, Jaquar, LandRover, Porsche, etc... So I don't know what to say. Maybe it is the best that he can do or anybody can do or I'm just the unlucky person?

i had also contacted my dealer they had no clue as to paint code for wheels. i wanted to paint my ferrari wheels as well as refinish my oem c32. the oem paint looks more like a very reflective pearl silver it does not have big flakes like a typical metallic.

theres also this http://www.sprayonchrome.com
but too bling????

just got my wheel back today ... colour wise it match perfectly... you can't tell the wheel had been refinish unless u compare the two side by side ... even then the only difference is that the stock amg wheel is a bit smoother texture but not by much ... i didn't take any pictures because the stock and the refinished wheel look exactly the same in picture ... so it is possible to refinish it almost identical to oem colour

It turned out better than I thought it would after they showed me another one like that they tried to match. Anyways, will post pic Thursday after I clean it up so you can really see the difference.

The hard part is stripping and polishing the lip. Ronal (the maker of the AMG wheels) uses some THICK primer paint.
