My First Burnouts

So I've got about 12,200 miles on the car, and the rear Pirellis are pretty close to gone. Not a bad thing, as I've been looking forward to getting some 255/35R18 Goodyears for the back end of the car....

Get home yesterday, park the car, and hear a slight hissing coming from the back wheel - sure enough, I've got a nail in the tire, that's gone all the way through and the tire is slowly losing air. Obvious the nail's been there a while, given how worn it is, just must not have made its way through before. OK, so I figure I may as well take it straight to the tire place before it goes flat and I have to change it.

On the way there I realize I'm about to replace the rears, so I may as well abuse them a bit. Turn off the ESP, and let her rip at every stop sign - what a kick! I can't believe how this thing lights up the tires. Getting on the freeway, just as I'm coming off the on-ramp, straight light, going about 50 I punch it and I swear the tires lit up. Is this even possible? Sure felt like it, and man was it fun!!!

Got my new 255 Goodyears (which look way cooler), and just read about the ECU reset mod. Life's good in an AMG!

Wait, how did you ever get 12,000 miles out of the stock pirellis?

I have around 4000 miles on my stock pirellis and i think i'll be lucky if i get 1500 more miles, is this odd?

Yes, I got the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, 255/35R18s, just the rears. Not enough miles to say anything yet, but they sure look good!

I don't know what's normal for mileage on the stock Pirellis, but from what I hear on this board it's pretty low, although I was thinking 12k wasn't great! That said, my C55 is my dailiy driver, so it only gets driven hard on twisty roads infrequently.

As I've recently learned, you're never really lighting up the rear "tires" it's more likely you're lighting up one tire since we have an open differential. That's also why its so easy to do.

I can't wait for my tires to croak (ContiSportContact2), and when I can, I abuse them. I recently worked on the stationary brake-rev-burnout technique. Fun and smelly.

Yeah I feel your pain. Mine should have been replaced at 7,000 miles. I've got 9,000 on them now but they are slicks now. I really thought they would last longer, especially since the ESP is so controlling.

I guess one too many times in dyno mode
