Over the last week or so my C32 has developed this very odd noise.
Happens when cold and seems to disappear after the car has been switched off for a bit and is still warm. It sounds like a fan thats hitting something (goes chucka-chucka-chucka) and the sound seems to be coming from the area in the centre of the windscreen just below the dashboard.
When the car is idling, no noise, when accelerating it starts and seems to go in time with the accelerator. The faster you drive the faster the noise.
Anyone have any ideas

Quad,
I had a similar noise in my car and it turned out to be the heater actuator cam gear and lever broken. But my noise only happened when you first started the car and the noise would occur only 7 - 9 times in the exact area you have said. I know there are several of these cam gears and levers utilised in the heater/air conditioning system to close and open various air diverter door/flaps.
Could it be that one of these is broken???? As for the timing of the noise whilst accelerating, as you mentioned, this is very strange indeed???

Well the noise is only happening in the morning from a cold start and appears to subside after the car is warmed up.
I'm trying to get the car booked in but I'm having such **** with the dealer (but that's another thread in itself when I have the energy

So the noise is caused by a secondary air pump. Car's still at the dealer for this and a host of other things (since last week Wednesday & courtesy car is a Smart 4four
). Hopefully I'll get her back before the weekend...

It sounds like its primary purpose is to heat up the catalytic converter quickly. Notice how many people are having problems with it after this recall though.

Okay, so I got the car back yesterday after the dealer had it for 3 weeks
The strange noise was from the handbrake cable rubbing against the propshaft.
They repalaced the secondary air injection pump which the dealer told me was just not there
. I don't know how this is possible though. Anyways, after only really have driven home last night and to the office this morning I can feel that power delivery appears to be a lot more linear than before. She feels 'smoother'. It also appears that the 1500RPM jerk is no longer there. I can only hope but will probably get a better idea on the way home today in stop-start traffic.
