Johnny Law almost got me!

Driving back from MIlwaukee on 43/94 today. Speed limit is 65. I was doing about 80 and saw a ricer civic merge on in front of me. Had a carbon fiber hood, wing, coffe can exhaust and a bunch of stickers. I showed him what was up and then got in the middle lane. He was in the left lane and I paced at 80 behind him for about a mile. My gut reaction was to blow by him in the right lane but devine intervention or my sixth sense told me to stay behind him. Not more than 30 seconds after I cooled off we passed a Wisconsin trooper in the median. I thought for sure we were both done. The trooper pulled out and flipped on the lights so I moved to the middle lane half expecting him to pull in behind me. But to my surprise he passed me and pulled over Uncle Bens. Very cose to getting my first ticket in the c32. I have been pushing my luck the past 3 months since I got it. So hard to exercise control...I think it's time to get a Valentine One.

Had you been in an M3, you would have been toast. This is the AMG "below the radar" factor at work.

I agree - MB's seem to garner less attention from the police than some other cars.

Seems to be the same in South Africa as well.

I call it the "Clark Kent/Superman" effect, but yeah - I've noticed this too. I'm in the local (mostly) ricer club here in Minneapolis (mnsc) and when I say I don't get tickets for the things they get tickets for, or something to that effect, they all say "well, you're not getting pulled over in that benz". I suppose it helps that my car isn't fart-canning down the road and I generally don't drive like I just robbed a bank, and I'm 36. But when no one is looking, I take off my three-piece suit, don the red and blue tights and take off faster than a speeding bullet ("hey, how come whenever Superman is around, Clark always dissapears")

Car and Driver called it "an Outlaw in a Hugo Boss suit".

lol - I used to drive a completely stock Honda Accord V6 Sedan, anything short of committing murder and the cops don't even see you.

I guess profiling has some benefits. 33 yr old in a suit driving a benz versus a 20ish kid with racing stickers and a huge wing on his car. Sad thing is I act more like the 20 year old than the 33 year old with this car.

Funny, I'm also 33 - at least for another 2 days - and can't resist to open up whenever I have open stretch of the road. I've being saved by 'below radar factor' many times driving all over chicagoland. The worst (as far as cops) is 53/355 between Lake-Cook and Army-Trail Toll.
BTW, trancein is trying to set up a meet for chicago forum members in Schaumburg some time soon, see if you'd be interested.

It's nice driving a Q-ship for that reason. It's also why I keep eyeing the purchase of a red NSX, but never go through with it - I know the cops would be on me like white on rice.

Haha.. I know what you guys mean about MB under the radar.. Twice now I have been driving about 90-100 mph on the freeway to have a cop pull up like a rocket right behind me.. Both times I saw them in advance and slowed.. Both times the cop pulled up next to me and did the slow down motion with his hand.. Both times I should have gotten a ticket, but they just let me slide..

I gave both cops a thumbs up after the slow down motion.. Man I am either just really lucky, or they don't want to bother someone in a MB.. Regardless I am knocking on wood right now.. and have been cruising ebay for a Valentine 1..

everything and anything
Definately get the Valentine One. You can do a search for some nice installs. I've had mine for over three years.

What about the full K40 remote systems, including laser jammers/etc? Do they have much better range than a Valentine? I've read conflicting opinions online, and some of the so-called radar detector ratings sites are actually in bed with one or more of the manufacturers...
