Car back from dealer. Thanks for the advice.
I had the recent recall done -- no performance problems to report.
I had my A/C "stepper" motor replaced to remedy the odd thumping.
Dealer noted that I had leaking caster bushings. Parts are ordered and will be replaced. Anyone else have this?
