Testdrove E63 and E55 this Wednesday
Just my 2 cents, this description is purely emotional with no attempt at technical overview.
Cruising on 90 towards Chicago on Wednesday, beautiful day. Phone call from my dealer, asking if I'm standing or sitting. After making sure that I firmly planted in my seat offers to testdrive new E63. I never say no to opportunity like that!
E55 was my dream car from the begining so I was anxious to see E63 in person. That one was irridium silver w/ash interior, fully loaded, no distronic. Extra wents on the front bumper looked mean and, in my opinion, is the only visual improvement over E55. Front is a bit pointed and looked out of place. Well, i fired it up and took it for a spin. Pushed the pedal, expected violent punch but response was very gradual more like in our cars, but stronger. It picks up a lot after about half a second and doesn't let go. The acceleration was very strong but I can't tell it felt that much faster than C55, maybe because it's heavier. Took it on the highway also, pushed it and again, it took abit to get to the full power but when it did it felt awesome, the torque was just neverending. Brakes were unbelivable - strong and very confidednt yet very civilized. The whole feeling from the car could be summed up in 'awesomely fast and civilized'.
After we got back to the dealer I knew i have to testdrive E55 right away while my feelings were fresh with E63. To my surprise I had E55 ready in 1 min. I have to confess that i was thinking of going to E55 for some time now and to drive it for the first time felt great but to drive it after E63 felt funny, I felt pressure on E55 not to be outshined by an older brother! My worries were pointless - E55 is the BEAST -the torque is just UNBELIEVEABLE! Car felt much more aggresive and violent. I understand now why they call it the BEAST
So what car woud I go with if I had a chance? I love the violense and maddness of E55 yet i was drawn to the civility of E63. Maybe because i come from C55 and accustom to N/A engine, or maybe because it's the next step in AMG evolution towards 6.2 l twin turbocharged engine
It's just plain crazy - AMG wil continue to come up with awesome cars that we would want to have, on the other hand maybe that's the beauty of it!

reason why i said Autohaus on Eden is b/c they have a silver E63 for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...mdZViewItem#lg looks like they marked it up around $10,000.
