Saw and test drove BMW 335 today
Car is sweet. Aggressive and handled very well. Drove stick as a demo.
Nice power through out the whole band range. The M3 (M4) might be sick, athough the modding for this by Dinan or other aftermarket tuner could make it a sleeper.

Turbos are easy to tune, and Dinan will be all over it. I kind of wonder why BMW went with a turbo, especially on the car that's one notch below the M3.

Car uses super, extra tiny turbo (size of avg person's fist) set up and car has high compression motor. Doubt you can squeeze more hp out of that set up..
nice car though..

from the dyno thats out there it looks like it pulls all the way to red line.
for comparison the audi s4 with the little k03s fall flat on its face after 5k...thease turbos are bigger than k03s im sure and we all know how much power chipped s4s get lol
I say a 5-8 psi increase will be no problem
my brother went from 8 to 19 psi on his s4 with just a chip and those tiny k03s are running just fine.

I don't think BMW has released info on the flow rates on there turbos yet.
If they are as big as k04s then this car should be able to put down 400whp asuming the head gasket can take the boost bump.
the engine should be just fine with a boost bump as long as the software is done right.
the s52 aluminum block from the e36 m3 can handle 630whp with just a head gasket and just a tad over 380whp with about 9psi stock and very safe to beat on.The limits were pushed on a stock block to over 600whp but the head gaskets would melt no matter what...
the rods start to bend at 700whp and thats where u really have to do a rebuild.
If the NA inline 6 m3 engine can take that much boost im sure this factory engine will be fine.
people are also running 7psi on the new m3 now aswell and that thing has a 11.5 compression ratio

I'm certain that one or more aftermarket tuners will manufacture turbo replacements for the 335, ala K04 for the S4. I can't wait to see the results!
By the way, there is already one on eBay: http://shorterlink.co.uk/5929

As most of you are well aware of, the new 335i coupe has landed on showroom floors across North America.
I had an opportunity to see and drive the new 335i coupe, and I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts.
As a current owner of a C55, my expectations were set quite high.
Firstly, from an asthetic standpoint, the coupe is quite pleasing to the eye. The front grille is classic BMW in every form, taking cues from the aggressive 5 series 550i variant. This coupe has "upmarketed" itself in every way from its predecessor, the e46. Its dimentions are larger in every direction, and most importantly larger in the rear- which will make your passengers happy. Let's call it a baby 6?
The power and handling on this car are unbelieveable. Again, this is coming from an aficianado's perspective. There is NO turbo lag whatsoever, and the acceleration is amazing. Cornering is true BMW, but more confident than the e46. You must all do yourself and favor and drive this car, as you will be certain to fall in love.
It might be tough, but I might say goodbye to my C55, to at least the C63 comes along.

C32 is still way more of a Q car and will continue to embarass the plethora of uneducated 3-series drivers.

I like this car..
I would buy the coupe.. .rather than the 335i sedan.
However, I'm going to wait until I enjoy the E55 for about 1 year or 2.
get a nicer SUV for the wife and kids and then see what AMG does with the C3.
I can't believe how fast the 335 is in stock form... low 5's and mid 13's..
But the competition like the new G35 and IS350 are just as fast.. there is small gap between them.
I told my self that I was going to leave the E55 stock, but since most entry lux sport sedans are around mid 13's... I need to push my E55 to low 12's with a bit higher trap speed with Evosport pullies and Powerchip ECU flash.
My E55 is coming in about 10 days.

looks more like my audi A4's turbo... doubt u'll make big hp with this set up.. hell, My 1jzgte (2.5L Twinturbo CT-12a) made 315rwhp with bolt ons..
I doubt you will get higher than 330rwhp with high compressio motor..
i may be wrong though..

Good read. It's crazy how someone already blew up the 335i engine.

I can't imagine the 335i having a crappier shifter than the M3. The M3 shifter is already pretty bad when it comes to slop. (Integra GSR shifter in stock form is 10x better). That mis-shift thing in M3's is easier to do than people think. I've done it but luckily no blown engine resulted from mine.

looks like that car has a clutch delay valve. That was the first thing I took out when I bought my m3...It slips the clutch so you can have smoother shifts....I can see why BMW put it there.
My only problem with the car is the long rear end ratio (3.08) and that it has no LSD
what was BMW thinking not to use an LSD with this car

My uncle blew his old M3's motor when he shifted from redline at 3rd to 2nd by accident.
I'm very impressed with the new 335. It seems like a great leap for BMW. If the 335 is this good (Knepster was actually comparing it to his AMG), then imagine what the new M3 will be like.
Great article about the dyno. That even further cements the fact that BMW built a great car. I can't wait to see what tuners will do with the turbos. We're probably lookin 400+ crank hp easy with intake, exhaust, and ECU.
