Scrapping Noise from Transmission Tunnel Area
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a scraping noise from the area of the transmission tunnel, the insulation above the transmission may have warped and is scraping on the propeller shaft. To resolve, perform the below procedure.
1. Make a bracket to support the transmission tunnel insulation by taking a strip of aluminum approximately 2 mm thick.
2. Cut the strip 40 mm wide and 220 mm long.
3. Drill a 6.5 mm diameter hole in the center (Figure 1).
Warning! Under body components may be hot, use caution.
4. Detach central heat shield above exhaust system and slide toward the rear (Figure 2).
5. Remove nut retaining insulation (Figure 3, arrow).
6. Bend aluminum strip to conform with tunnel contour.
7. Fit aluminum strip on threaded stud and reinstall original nut.
8. Reinstall central heat shield above exhaust system.
Note: The following allowable labor operations should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair.

I just sent all my repair invoice to a Lemon Law lawyer and they will take the case without me paying. The only cost to me is time. After 7 visits and 6+ weeks in the dealer, vibration problem for my car still not fix. Too bad it has to be this way. Dealer really **** me off by telling me this is the best they can do. During these 7 visits, I been told my car is normal and no vibration is found and later replacing tranny, drive shaft, engine mount, tq converter, radiator (flush twice). Law firm's letter is on its way for me to sign and I already email MBUSA to take any action before I sign it off...we will see.

Torque Converter Clutch Rough Engagement and/or Droning/Buzzing
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that during acceleration and/or constant drive there is a noticeable jerk, possibly followed by a droning/buzzing, adapt the torque converter clutch as per the below procedure. This may be caused by a lack of/or inadequate adaption of the torque converter clutch. This particularly applies in cases where there is less than 6,000 miles accrued on the torque converter or transmission control unit.
1. Read engine coolant temperature out with Star Diagnosis [Cars > Vehicle Type > control units > ME > Actual Values > Test engine at idle speed].
2. Start the engine (cold start, over-night), select D with the shifter and hold the vehicle at idle speed for 20 seconds by depressing the brake pedal.
3. Start driving the vehicle between 30-40 mph on level ground using the cruise control. With SDS, observe the engine coolant temperature until the engine coolant temperature has risen approx. 10 degrees Farenheit.
Warning! Hazardous procedure for one technician alone.
4. Stop driving and hold the vehicle in "D" at idle speed for 20 seconds by depressing the brake pedal.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with each engine coolant temperature increase of about 10 degrees Farenheit until the operating temperature levels out.
6. After reaching a transmission oil temperature of 80 degrees Celsius, continue driving between 30-40 mph, on level ground for 10 minutes cumulatively using the cruise control to maintain consistant engine load.

Air Conditioning Musty/Moldy Odor Complaints
Under certain environmental conditions, typically in a hot and humid climate, the vehicle may emit a musty/moldy odor from the air conditioning system. This will be particularly more noticeable when starting the vehicle and is due to the growth of micro-organisms from residual condensation typically on the evaporator and on the interior surface of the heater box.
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles regarding a musty/moldy odor from the air conditioning system, the Wynn's(R) AIRCOMATIC(TM) Ultrasonic A/C Cleaning System together with Wynn's(R) AIRCO-CLEAN(TM) Ultrasonic A/C Treatment is recommended. For the best, longest lasting results, apply according to the following procedure.
1. The evaporator must be dry before using the Wynn's(R) system. To assure this, drive for 30 minutes with the A/C switched off.
2. With SDS and a code number obtainable from TAC, set recirculation to unlimited".
3. Place the Wynn's(R) AIRCOMATIC(TM) Ultrasonic Cleaning System in the passenger footwell. Insert the hose in the luggage net and orient the end of the hose to insure the output from the device is sucked into the heater box.
4. Start engine, press recirculation button, select lowest blower speed and set the temperature(s) to minimum. The compressor must be running.
5. Install one container of wynn's(R) AIRCO-CLEAN(TM) in the Wynn's system.
6. Plug in the Wynn's system and check that it is running.
7. Close all doors and windows.
8. When the fog stops coming out of the Wynn's(R) system (after approximately 20 minutes), the dispersion process has been completed.
9. Switch engine off, turn off the Wynn's(R) system and leave windows and doors closed for approximately 1 hour.
10. Open doors and trunk lid/tailgate.
11. With SDS and the previously obtained code number, reset recirculation to limited".
12. Restart engine, switch on A/C, select the highest blower speed and set the temperature(s) to minimum.
13. Allow system to run for about 10 minutes. The cleaning process is now complete.
Check the "Reheat" setting, it should be set to "de-ice" on the 203 or 209 or anti-icing" on the 211.
To reduce the possibility for this complaint to reoccur, advise the owner to operate the blower at a higher speed, especially during humid conditions. For cars with a REST function, it can also help to use this feature during humid conditions when parking the car.
This treatment will last up to one year. More frequent treatment will not be covered under warranty.
The Wynn's(R) AIRCOMATIC(TM) Ultrasonic A/C Cleaning System together with Wynn's(R) AIRCO-CLEAN(TM) Ultrasonic A/C Treatment is available from the SSEP by calling 1-888-458-4040.
For the 211 only, in case of customer reports that the air conditioning system is emitting a musty/moldy odor from the vents within 3 months after using the Wynn's(R) product as described above, a new slanted heater box bottom which allows the condensation to drain better and a PU coated evaporator which inhibits mold entered production as of VIN A675828 and X171590. In this case, these parts can be installed in earlier cars. Be sure to thoroughly clean the inside of the heater box and make sure the drain tubes are not clogged before reassembling the system.
For the 203 and 209 only, in case of customer reports that the air conditioning system is emitting a musty/moldy odor from the vents within 3 months after using the Wynn's(R) product as described above, a Biocide coated evaporator which inhibits mold entered production as of VIN A731368 and F634900 for the 203 and F144091 and T042954 for the 209. In this case, this part can be installed in earlier cars. Be sure to thoroughly clean the inside of the heater box and make sure the drain tubes are not clogged before reassembling the system.

THUMPING NOISE FROM FRONT AXLE AREA WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPY ROAD
On the vehicles listed in the Effective VIN Range Chart, if you receive complaints of a thumping noise occuring from the front axle area, while driving over bumpy roads, it is possible that the clearance between the rebound stop (B, Figure 1) and the rubber ring on the top of the front damper strut is too small.
Effective Serial Number Range
Our experience has shown that the front damper strut is not involved in producing this type of noise.
In determining wether the above condition is the cause of the thumping noise and determining appropriate repair steps, please check VMI to determine if vehicle has been previously repaired, prior to beginning the repair procedure below. Also updated rebound stops which have been incorporated into production are temporarily marked with yellow paint dots.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify that vehicle is within VIN range, see Effected Serial Number Range table.
2. Additionally, check for modified rebound stops with yellow paint dots.
If a new/modified rebound stop has been installed, please proceed to Step 7 below.
3. Test drive vehicle to determine/verify noise in area of front axle. (Operation Code: 00-9150)
4. Measure clearance between the rebound stop (B, Figure 2) and the Rubber ring. (Operation Code: 32-0000 includes both sides)
If the clearance is below 1 mm, then the rebound stop (B, Figure 2) must be replaced.
5. Remove the 21 mm nut which secures the rebound stop to the damper strut assembly.
Note :It is not necessary to remove the damper strut assembly. Replace the removed rebound stop with a new rebound stop.
6. Secure the new rebound stop with a new 21 mm nut. See WIS document AR32.25-P-1018P for the torque value for the newly installed 21 mm nut. (Operation Code: 32-0000 includes measuring and replacing both sides).
7. Perform road test (Operation Code: 00-9150).
8. If the noise continues (perform road test Operation Code: 00-9150), even with the new/modified rebound stop installed or the vehicles' VIN number is outside of the VIN number range stated in the Effective Serial Number Range table, the rubber mounts of the front anti-roll bar must be checked.
9. Unhook the drop link leading to the front axle's anti-roll bar, see WIS document AR32.20-P-0300P.
(Operation Code: 32-2050).
10. Check for free play within the anti-roll bar rubber mounts by moving the anti-roll bar back and forth. If there is any play noticed while checking the anti-roll bar rubber mounts for free play, the anti-roll bar rubber mounts must be replaced. See WIS document: AR32.20-P-0300P
11. Test drive vehicle (Operation Code: 00-9150), on a bumpy road surface after repairs are completed, to verify noise complaint has been addressed

11. Test drive vehicle (Operation Code: 00-9150), on a bumpy road surface after repairs are completed, to verify noise complaint has been addressed

hey Biff....
How do you go about actually gettitng something from that list taken care of? Is there a a secret art to it? I went to RBM of atlanta when I first purchased my c32 and expected to be taken care of. Well I had a few things that were fualt not my own, but were results from the above conditions. They just explain it away, or say they ckecked it out, its fine, no need to worry. Do I have to print this out and go demand something with these guys? Do they not like taking car of their customers????
Regards.

Thanks Bif, you have helped me get so many issues taken care of that the MB techs seem to play dumb on
I had a few of these issues but have repeatedly had this problem without any resolution:

I had a vibration in the front after going over bumps and TWO TIMES they said, everything looks good. The THIRD TIME they go "yeah, looks like your sway bar links are bad"...so...they went bad between 3 weeks ago and now?
![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
This last time (must've been like the 5th time for this one issue) I took my car in for the so-called 'vibration at 40 mph' (no tsb that I've found for it), Sears Imports in Minnetonka Minnesota - the SA took me seriously and listened to my concerns and suggestions, but in the end they said, yeah it's your tires
![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
Same thing on the 'jerk at 1500 rpm' - they replaced the torque converter, cleared the adaptation, etc...in the end they said "I think you're going to have to just live with it"
![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
![slap](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/slap.gif)
I know all cars are going to have problems, that's not the issue - the issue is the follow-through and accountability. Zilch.
I've basically given up on the dealers and the idea of a warranty with Mercedes Benz and I'm turning to the community - local and Internet - which is why I posted the TSBs to begin with - just trying to give back. I will probably buy more than $1-2 Million in cars in my life, and I'm never giving another cent to a dealer of any kind ever again...excepting our own Vadim in Laguna Niguel - if I move there, I'll give them a shot
![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'll have to live with this because there just is no other car that turns me on like the MBs, especially the AMGs, but I just bought an S4 last night for a winter car - maybe it will turn me. Before I would never have considered going away from AMG as it's my teenage dream and I'm living it, but the B7 RS4 is starting to look pretty damn good these days.
Completely jaded.

Is this a request for that TSB's info, or just informational? Be happy to post the full text if it is.

Campaign - ESP Module Ground Connection Inspection
Campaign No. 2001100003
March 2002
FILE:
SERVICE:
GROUP 00 OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER
PARTS:
GROUP I OF INFORMATION - PARTS & ACCESSORIES BINDER
TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ DEALERS
SUBJECT:
MODEL 203.061/064/065/264
INSPECTION OF GROUND CONNECTION (W16/3) FOR ESP CONTROL
MODULE (N47-5)
In some cases, on subject vehicles within the effective serial number range chart noted below, it may be possible that the ESP ground cable connector (W16/3, located just forward of the left hand shock tower) (Figure 1) for the ESP control Module (N47-5), was not assembled properly. In addition, the ESP control module harness plug must be checked for moisture intrusion (Figure 4). Please inspect the subject vehicles on the next scheduled service visit, to determine if the ESP ground cable connector has been assembled properly, and to remove any moisture accumulation in the ESP control module harness connector.
Effective Serial Number Range
Checking Ground Connector Assembly and Moisture removal from ESP Harness Plug
Procedure:
1. Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
2. Loosen ground nut at W16/3 (Figure 1) and remove ESP Control Module ground wire (thick wire), as well as all other wires.
3. Remove heat shrink from cable lug completely, using a suitable tool (Figure 2).
NOTE :take care not to damage the wire insulation when removing heat shrink.
4. Once the heat shrink has been removed from the cable lug, remove the balance (A, Figure 3) of the heat shrink from the ground wire itself.
5. Unplug the ESP harness plug from the ESP Control Module (N47-5), see WIS document AR42.45-P-0820P.
6. Carefully tap the unplugged harness plug against your hand to remove any moisture, additionally, blow out the ESP harness plug with dry compressed air while elevated above the ground cable, for 3 minutes, at the ground pins (arrows, Figure 4), to ensure complete removal of any moisture.
7. Next blow out, with dry compressed air, the multi-pin connector directly at the ESP Control Module, then carefully reconnect the ESP harness plug to the ESP Control Module connector.
8. Install new heat shrink tubing onto ESP Control Module ground wire (thick wire), ensure that the heat shrink tubing stops where removed (A, Figure 2), and does not cover crimped end.
9. Place the 6 x 1.2 mm washer onto the ground stud at W16/3 (1 Figure 1).
10. Install thin ground wires first, then reinstall the ESP ground wire (thick wire) and secure with the previously removed ground nut, observing tightening torque of 10 Nm for the nut.

All cars have issues...
It's just the higher dollar ones are more well documented and when you pay more you expect more, so the complaints tend to be more on the surface. Could you really complain about your seat squeking in a Hyundai and be taken seriously? Probably not.
