Tire problem... C55

Today I noticed that my passenger side front tire was flat. I thought I ran over a sharp object or a nail. Didn't think it was a big deal untill I removed the wheel.
Driver side of passenger side tire's sidewall was seperated.. Tire has about 19000 miles on now. Tire it self has some thread left (30-40%).

I've never seen a case like this.. Did this happen because my tire is worned out or is this a case of faulty tire?

Also, I wouldn't have any problem using 245/40/18 for rear tires right?

probably hit a nail and blew. the rim can cut through the tire quite easily especially on low profile tires.

I blew one of my rear Eagle F1 gs-d3 like that when I caught a construction nail and blew instantly.

edit: you can run 245/35 or 255/35 on 18. I wouldn't go 245/40, it'll just make it look fat on the side yet skinny from the rear.

You got 19000 miles out of your tires??
I just replaced all 4 and I only have 15000 miles. My rears actually had cords showing.
I did not replace them with the Pirelli's. I have Toyo Proxies on them. I've never used those before, we'll see how they work out.

I got under 8000 miles with my first set of rears as well...took 'em right down to the threads as well!!

I swiched from the Pirellis to PS2's, and went a tad wider at 255/35-18.

because the full size spare doesn't fit in the small wheel tub because the C55 has two mufflers.

Atleast we have a spare...I saw an Angry BMW Z4 owner at the dealership on a sunday with a blow-out. He could not believe he has nothing but inflato-junk in the trunk...and he needed to be in Vegas that day and sweating it big time =)

i think they are great for the price. not sure if it will fit. my 18x8.5 cleared with 35 offset, but it depends on the style of the wheel.
