check L&R lowbeams warning

Ok its cold in Chicago and I noticed on Saturday that a warning saying " check L&R lowbeams " came on but the lights are on and no flashing. It seems to go away once I restart car. I installed about 3 weeks ago a Carlab 8000k HID kit. That is only mod I have done to car that may be associated. If anyone can help I appreciate it. I has come on since 3 times with this cold morning being one.

I installed a 6000k HID kit in my 1994 E420
and at first the lowbeam warning light didn't come on.
but after a few times it came on and has stayed on since.
I think it's the nature of the beast unrelated to the cold weather.
HIDs draw less current than the regular halogen bulbs
hence triggering the low beam indicator. People have
said mercedes dealerships can fix this via star diagnostics.
I hope I've been of some help

I will try it out but this HID kit should not require that.

The HID kit uses a resistor to avoid XENON=PRESENT from being needed. The cold is probably making the resistance drop enough that the car sees that it is not behaving like a halogen, and is triggering the code.

So is it better to leave alone? It doesn't show the warning all the time just three times since Saturday. All I have to do is restart car and it usually goes away.

Thanks JGSX

If you don't mind it showing up once in a blue moon, just leave it alone. If you have easy access to a friendly dealer, do the XENON=PRESENT thing

Yeah I plan to talk to him in a few days and will ask him if its a bother to have mechanic do that. But once summer or warmer weather comes should I put the settings back?

No, you can always have XENON=PRESENT with your HID kit

Check you battery too. I was having this problem with my lights and I couldn't figure out what it was. After I picked my car up from the Service B, I was told that my battery is not at 100% and will need to be replaced. Instead of forking over the $$ for the fat *** MB battery, I decided to try charging it with a trickle charge overnight. Since then, my lights have not acted up at all. This will hold me over until spring, then I can replace the battery with a lighter Optima or something.

Too bad you're putting the Benz away for the winter! I'm going to take mine out when the roads are black.

Ugh, now I gotta look at trading my Jeep in for an X3. I forgot what winter is like
