pix my sl55 setup
i also thermo insulated the underside of the sl55 boxes. they sit right above the cylinder heads, which as you know, aint one of the coolest spots on the car!
the full sl55 intake allows more supercharger sound to escape and adds more power, especially noticeable on low end. this was the 1st mod i did and i really liked it as a stand alone. at part throttle the car sounds a bit like my f355.

I would like to do this mod also, but the threads explaining how to do it do not have the piccies any more
i did have to trim some metal from right side of cam cover - the insert slot for the oem intake box and had to cut the bit of plastic off box to clear the front oil fill cap. the only trick part was the right and left tubes don't splice into each other indentically. so i ruined one sl55 tube and had to replace ($15).
i used regular insulating wrap bought from home depot- the stuff for air ducts. seems to be holding up well. the oem cover does not line up with the 55 boxes anyway i want to see my little beast so the cover stays off.
I did have to supply a sl55 vin to facilitate ordering the boxes.
sorry no other pix. i got rid of my dvd camcorder and have not bought the replacement yet.

When I bought the SL55, The Y splitter was on backorder for awhile, then I was told the three seperate pieces for the Y and hoses, now come as a unit, with a new part number, with hose clamps already crimped on the Y splitter. This is what I received in November 2006.
The Y splitter is a tight fit and the right side air filter housing does not quite
fit the prefitted hose, as well as it should. I trimmed around the oil filter, removed the clips on the bottom of air filter housings, since they don't line up. Also trimmed the the right side rear filter housing in the back where it hit a hose or harness.
I had to move the purge vaccum line to behind another hose and remove a few clips for clearance.
The intake snorkels had to be trimmed, since they are too long.
The engine cover clips into the air cleaner housing are in the wrong place and rotated 90degrees from where they should be.
Without the engine cover it is only 5 parts, only 5 different Mb part numbers, from the dealer, due to left/right side.
2-snorkles
1-Y splitter with hoses
2_airfilter housing (includes filters)
Plus need two 3.5" or 4" sewer size hose clamps.
Autotrader.com has vin numbers.

So, for anyone wanting the full setup, Mitch still has some. I will post the price he quotes me as soon as he calls me back. I would guess they will go for around $200-$300.

but i took the Splitter off to make some adjustments and i noticed that the metel cip on the back wall of the engine compartment, was starting to cut through the hose, and if that happened i would loose air pressure in the car causing a lot of problems. so i too the SL55 splitter off and put the stock one back on. i'm going to relocate that clip or cover the new hose with a metal plate so the metal clip does not cut through the hose. take a look if the same thing is happening to your hose.
i would recommend Hew to anyone wanting work done to their car, he has done a number of e55K stage 2s and my c32 was the 1st. his # is 203 220 9265. actually i just dropped off my car for s/c bearing replacement.
offer Mitch $250!. tell him Cecil said not a penny more. that will **** him off an make me happy.
Harry just bend the tab in.

Score! If you can document ~10 HP on the dyno, or a tenth and a MPH at the digs, this tweak will be my next modification.
he did the s/c bearing replacement for $100.
i like the sl55 box tweak. i think you pick up power but the sound is nice....stab the throttle at 20 mph in 3rd and the s/c sound is quite audible. nice.

I have this intake installed and find it to be a big improvement over the stock boxes (SRT6 and C32 are the same) - here is a link to my install.

With the SL55 Intake (W/factory filters) - LET 185mm Pulley - Iridium Plugs - Dyno Tune - LET HE / CM30 Pump - Seperate coolant tanks - Resonator Delete - I consistantly make 360rwhp..... Looking to make 400rwhp.
The SL55 intake is 25% bigger - bigger intake tubes - bigger I/O ports on the airboxes -, bigger airboxes themselves (huge room between the filter and the bottom of the box for air to flow) - Bigger filter area (Sq. In.) - bigger throttle body Y-Pipe etc..

Big enough for a S/C AMG SL55 - big enough for my modified / boosted AMG3.2L V6.
