Engine \ Gearbox shaking at idle

Ok - well ive read through the forums and taken my car in numerous times to teh local MB dealer yet I stil have the shaking.

So far the dealership has done:
new V poly belt
2003 software upgrade
replaced afew bushes
done a Glycol test to eliminate gearboc issues.

And now the dealership say although they can feel the shaking they have no idea what to do about it and have washed their hands of it.

I called MB Customer Service and they advised to get a second opinion - it goes in on the 22nd Feb. But any further ideas from anyone here?

Every once in a while the car whiel driving slow does a slight thump while changing gear - it was terrible but after the 2003 upgrade it does it alot less now.

More annoying though - just sit at traffic lights or in traffic with it in drive and foot on brake pedal and the car is shaking like mad - feels from the gearbox tunnel but could be the engine I suppose. Also leave it in Park with engine running and same thing - shaking is so bad you can feel it on the outer body of the car (like door etc)

As I say the local MB dealer feels theyve doen all they can - now im waiting to take it to another dealership. Its got a Tier 1 warrenty so I really want it sorted as it wont come out of my pocket.

Anyone here have further ideas as majority of cases ive read so far were Tranny changes after a bad Gkycol test - Ive had teh test doen and its coem back fine. And my RAD is not one of the dodgy make ones either so I guess the tranny aint got that prob.

Any help\advice would be much appreciated.

BTW - the car runs fine other than this.

It could be number of things:
1. check sprk plug wiring-crossed wires-kind of hard to do, but I've seen amazing things done by mechanics.
2. check spark plugs by itself
3. ignition coils- very rare thing to go wrong but worth attention.

other than that good luck.

Check engine, transmission mounts. Also driveshaft coupler and rear subframe mounts.

It sounds to me like a mechanical problem. Something is loose or broken.

Good Luck!

C32 AMG - in Pewter
When idling, are the RPMs stable, or do they seem to dip shortly and come back?

hi all thanks for your replies.

In answer to last question - when idling it never drops in revs - ts smooth on rev counter so its not a timing issue.

but as wih your comments it looks like it could be quiet afew things to keep the 2nd dealership busy!!

I would suggest changing the transmission oil - when was the last time it was changed (if ever)?
