I am not on Facebook.

Why MaxQData? Good, user-friendly software is critical. Have you considered Traqmate. You can have their Basic for $620 and Complete for $850. Complete is much easier to use, but not really necessary. Plus you can integrate video, which is awesome. If you need dash and vehicle info too, you might want to look at DL1 and DASH2 package, which is $1600 + few hundred for OBDII or Serial interface. Most likely that is what I am going to get.

for track days, as a beginner, i would say go with yoke a048 or toyo r888. you can drive to the track on these tires. you can swop them side to side to even out shoulder wear which is inevitable with camber challenged c32.

OPM- the maxq unit package has a display no need for a laptop. means i can has get visuals at track with minimum of fuss. i havent reseached the two units in detail. i thought traqmate was $999???

MSRP for Complete is $999, but few places sell them at a discount. Email me if you need contact info. Complete is data logger + display. Display is really a convenience feature. It allows easier USB download, convenience of easy start/end session, etc. However, in the corners I do not have time to look at the gauges, never mind looking at what G I am pulling. The amount of data you’ll get is overwhelming and from everything I read and hear, it takes weeks to go through 1-day of track data. So analyzing between sessions is not realistic. But either way the data has to be downloaded into PC to be fully analyzed. So you might want to save a few $$$ and just get Basic. To my knowledge, the software “usability” of Traqmate is significantly superior to MaxQ. Take everything I said with a grain of salt because I do not own either.

I actually had traqmate in hand ready to install but opted out when a buddy sold his setup. we would have been able to compare data online. anyway- i'm not a computer savvy guy so i saw the max q and it's stand alone screen as a benefit. i'll research anew next spring as i will definitely be buying something.

anyway- i picked up a 94 e36 325 auto- it's rust free and has the obd 1 mani, wiring harness and 3.91 rear diff that i also need. i was ripping the iterior out yesterday and have to go with a torch and chisel to get the sound deading tar out. only paid $1200 for the car that was a lucky find as i can sell the tranny and motor and recoup some costs. aim to be on track next year march. the plan is competition school in may.

a bit of closure....

some of the new guys will be surprised to see this old thread pop up.....but i realise i let it hanging and wanted to make one last post for closure (i spose).

hope some of my old friends are still here but doubtful.

it took 1 yr to rebuild the m3, finally got back on track oct 2009 for one event.

2010 broke and i hit the track with a vengance. by this time i had sold my c32 and piced up a ml350 and alu trailer.

quickly got myself up to speed, the e36 m3 is a delight and very predictable. still need to sort out small issues. basic build is stock engine, cams advanced, euro headers, CAI, turner chip, obd 1 conversion, free flo exhaust. 3.91 rear diff, ground control race shock and ~600 lb springs. 2560 lbs with 1/2 tank.

did about 15 days on track- monticello full, pocono n & e, lime rock, lightning, thunderbolt, watkins glen.

we got FTD at the emra lime rock day in june 101.1 ....ran 1:34 at thunderbolt on old hoosiers last month. getting ready for nasa GTS3 in 2011. http://www.nasagts.com/

here's a couple pix of the car.

amen.

Nice! A stripped out, track prepped E36 M3 can be very fast with a good driver.

I see that as time passed, you got more and more stickers on your car.......building up the sponsor list to fund your track/race addiction?......
