You don't need to take the snap ring off. It's a lot easier when the engine is completely cold. You need to take it off at an angle. Try wiggling it up and down while pulling out. It should slide off a few millimeters each wiggle.

Yes, did it with the engine warm, this may have been my issue. Used a puller to get it off. All good, but wasn't a 15 min job the first time for me. Will be quicker next time.

Cold engine is a great tip. Thanks.

Zeppelin’s technique worked perfectly.

Upon reassembly, noticed the pulley-to-snout clearance was too large.
Removing one of the three original spacers enabled measurement within specification.
Note each has a different thickness, likely to maximize available adjustability.

The pleasant result was reduced engagement “chirp.”

I wish I knew about checking the clearance before I did mine. I guess there is next time.

Minimal. There is little difference between the bearing’s inner race diameter of ~1.259”/31.98mm from that of the snout’s ~1.255”/31.88mm.

Their respective dimensions are ostensibly designed for minimal (hand) pressure requirement upon installation at workshop temperature.
Note the two tend to become a mild interference fit during normal operating temperatures.
